Are you ever concerned about how fast you read a novel or something for school? I never really was until my husband sort of turned it into a competition (not intentionally). He has been reading since he was three and was the kid in class with no friends and always had his head in a book. So over the years he developed this super reading speed. He knows every book he has read from cover to cover, and grasps all of the concepts, so I know that he is actually reading the books. Over the last four years I have tried to increase my reading speed. I have increased some, but still cannot read as fast as he can. Do you know anyone like this, a speed reader?

How fast can he read a book? I can read a 300 or so page book in a couple of hours, but I rarely get a couple of uninterupted hours with three kids. I don't think that qualifies for speed reading though. Actually I don't know a lot of people who are "readers", so many people seem to think that it is boring and would rather watch tv. I prefer reading to television most of the time.

He reads 2-3 lines at one time. I have seen him finish a 500 page book in an hour. He can tell you details about whatever he was reading. He has a very high comprehension rate.

Im a speed reader. I started in 5th grade. I think I was trying to outdo my best friend. Now i can read a huge fat book in one days time if not interupted. :)

I think if reading fast interferes with your enjoyment of a book then it's a bad thing. I naturally read quickly, so I can bustle through a book pretty fast when I get the chance.
Reading should be a pleasure not a chore or a competition, albeit an unintentional one. I think speed in reading can also just be genetic , both my parents are very fast readers.
