Why is it that God no longer "speaks" aloud to us?

I cannot remember one recorded case of God speaking aloud to anyone about anything since biblical history. Which was written several hundreds or thousands of years after the events that the Book portrays. Is it possible that they were being alliterative or rhetorical in saying that God actually spoke through a burning bush and through a pillar of fire. Or has it always been as it is now. Take his existence on faith and sometimes feel that he is whispering into your soul.
Otherwise if he actually spoke to man before modern times, would it be a fair supposition that if he hasn't seen fit to talk to us in 2000 years, that he may feel that we are no longer worth talking to?

God still speaks to His own Children today. He speaks through His word,a still small voice,His servants, dreams and visions.
But you can never understand this until you give your life to Christ. We are talking of spiritual thing which can never be understood by a natural man.

Why do you suppose that God no longer speaks to us?? do you actually take time to sit and listen to what God has to say?? I think its now that man has stopped listening to God more than that God has stopped speaking to us. God speaks to us everyday, but we fail to listen. If we close our minds and hearts to God, we cannot say that God is no longer speaking to us

Could it be that there is so much noise around us that we can't hear even if he did talk out loud to us. In the book of John it says that God spoke and the people looked at each other and asked if it was thunder. Sometimes we need to take time to be quiet and listen.

God still speaks. He speaks to as many as desire and yearn to hear him. He speaks in diverse ways even with an audible voice. Do you desire to hear His audible voice?

G-d is not like us, we have to remember that. For us to read, "G-d spoke..." we envision him to have a mouth and speak like we do. He doesn't have to. The responses you've already recieved are very good and each one of them deserves a thumbs up.
Another thing, it says in the bible about if we don't even believe in the prophets, how would we believe in him? There are people around you who are ordained by G-d to speak his word and give you a message.

For a fundamentalist, no, they are literal events that took place. Many fundamentalists will give answers like :
Now god speaks to his children only in dreams, only through preachers, through the bible, god does this today, but only those pure of heart listen and the list go on and on.
For a less fundamentalis type, the question may be answered as he spoke only to a selected few, and after jesus he did not need to do this, because his message was sent in a more eloquent manner than just speaking out.
For an atheist, like me, these are only mythologies, and if god really desired his children to be saved, all of it, he just need to speak out and clear to all the people of the world, if he exists he can certainly do this.
