Is it cat hair or saliva that some are allergic to?

It's not really the hair of a cat that people are allergic to, it is the dander. Cats have more dander than humans do and it tends to linger in the air longer as well, which can cause more irritation to a human being.

It's the saliva that drys on the cat hair that causes the dander that people are allergic to. When I first get a new cat, I am allergic. But then I get used to the saliva/dander of the new cat and I'm no longer allergic. Maybe it has something to do with what I feed them, too. They get used to me and I get used to them.
