Colostrum is pretty important. It may not look like much, but it's very good for the baby. It contains a lot of antibodies which help protect the baby, and also helps clear out the baby's digestive system. It comes in very small amounts because babies don't really need much volume right away, and it is very high in carbohydrates and protein.
Pretty amazing for something that looks so unappetizing, eh?
