Why nursing?

All my life, I have wanted to become a nurse. I know that it is my destiny! I have been a nurse aide for many years. I love it, but my dream has resurfaced. I am now in college, at 40 years old, chasing my dream. By fall, I will be an LPN. I may go on for RN, but I'm still weighing that decision. Nurses have a great responsibility to the patients giving care, instruction, moral support, and making sure that the physician's orders are in the best interest of the patients. There is a lot a paperwork, and checking and rechecking. Why are you a nurse? Why do you want to become a nurse?

Why am I a nurse? It is the most awesome career that exsists! There is nothing I would rather do with my life! I have worked as registered nurse since 1979. I have recently started teaching nursing at a local college, as there is such a demand for nurses nationwide and there aren't enough teachers to enroll more nursing students! I remember as a very small girl breaking the arms off my dolls and poking holes in my stuffed animals so that I could 'nurse' them back to health with my homemade bandages. I knew from that early age that I would be a nurse! I have worked everything from open heart units, emergency room, orthopedics to an adolescent mental health hospital and loved every area! Best of luck with your studies, you won't be disappointed in the profession, I promise! I will close with something that was given to me years ago. It circulates among nurses and no one seems to know who wrote it! It is a wonderful read! 1. You will never be bored. You will always be frustrated. 2. You will be surrounded by challenges. So much to do and so little time. 3. You will carry immense responsibility and very little authority. 4. You will step into people's lives and you will make a difference. 5. Some will bless you. 6. Some will curse you. 7.You will see people at their worst--and at their best. 8.You will never ceased to be amazed at people's capacity for Love, Courage, and Endurance. 9.You will see life begin--and end. 10. You will experience resounding triumphs and devasting failures. 11. You will cry a lot. 12. You will laugh a lot. 13. You will know what it is to be human and to be humane. ( This cannot be said any better. I cannot take credit for writing this, the author is unknown.)

I am 27 years old and I have always known that i want to be a nurse. There have been many barriers to fulfilling my life long dream...but in september I will begin the continuing care program. This is my stepping stone. If all goes well I will take correspondence courses to get into the RN program the following year. I am praying that everything works out. I have taken the cca program befor and iI am so intriged by alzheimers and related dementia. So even when I become an RN this is the feild I hope to work in. I love the poem

I remember the stories Dad told of being a Corpman in the Navy. I used to play with his bp cuff all the time! Life got in the way of doing anything about it though, I got married before I even graduated high school, no I wasn't pregnate! Now that I am single again, it is time to put what I want first and go for it. I'm going to start with LPN and then see if that is "enough" then decide about RN. I love being an aide, I just want to be able to do a little more.
