In keeping with Valentine's Day, I would like to share my favorite pet name for my hubby. He is a handsome, big, burly black guy that I lovingly called THE BEAR, due to his slight similarity to the ursine animal.
Furthermore, additional words are added to the nickname depending on various moods and situation, such as, because of his color he is THE CHOCOLATE BEAR, when he likes to keep the temperature of the house too cold for me he becomes THE POLAR BEAR, when he got laid off and stayed at home for long periods of time he becomes THE HOUSE BEAR, whe he gets mad and get all grumpy he is THE GRIZZLY BEAR, and when he plays around with kids he becomes THE TEDDY BEAR.
My favorite is when he ran around at night wearing only a shirt with no underwear, then he becomes POOH BEAR due to the similarity of outfit with Winnie the Pooh!
How about you guys? What strange, unique, 'embarassing', loving nicknames do you give to your significant other? What stories lie behind it?

Very cute nicknames for your hubby.
I call my fiance Dove. His real name is Jesse, and when i first started dating him I told him his name bothered me. As he was the first male Jesse I had ever met. So I decided to rename him. I came up with many, many terms. But he was being stubborn, so I started coming up with cheesy names like "Angel Face" "blossom" "lovebud" and.. well other dumb ones. But in the progress I said "Dove" and he actually liked it. So somehow it's stuck around. ^.^

Dove. That's the first time I heard one used for a male partner. It does have a nice ring to it. I've realized with nicknames, what makes them unique, are the people who coined them and the intentions and feelings behind it.
