My daughter is 15. She just got her working papers and is very excited at the prospect of getting a job and having spending money. We have a lot of small businesses and restaurants around here, but I'm not sure where she can legally work at age 15. Her working papers simply say "non-factory work". Does anyone know?

Cinema! We have a large theater here in town, that would be perfect for her. I'm writting down everyone's suggestions so she can work from the list. I know she will appreciate the help. I feel confident that she will get the a job if she can just get an interview. She is such a sweet and likeable girl, she'd be perfect for customer service.

I would ask around at the local stores and restaurants. It is up to the individual businesses whether or not they will hire a 15 year old. When I was 15 the only place that I could find that would hire someone my age was a local veternarian to walk the dogs in the kennel. Also was responcible for feeding and cleaning the cages. Once I turned 16 I had lots of oppertunities.

Children and Money - Some older kid want to work to get money to buy things themselves
Hello, This certificate(AT-18)is for children attending school and are from age 14 to 16 years old. It is valid for part-time work when school is in session, and for full-time work during vacation periods... Bascially non-factory work means your child can not work in a factory workroom involving use of dangerous materials or chemical processes. I hope this helps and good luck...

Because she isn't 18 she can't run machines. She can be a bagger at a store or stock shelves. Call your local vet office taking care of animals. I don't think she can waitress. She can cashier. Good luck on her getting a job and having spending money.

When I was 15 I worked at a small dry cleaners in our town. The actual cleaning was not done there, it was a drop off place, so I would have to take in clothes, and tag them for pickup, and then put orders together for when people came to get their clothes. I also worked the cash register and totaled up the days earnings at night. I think she should be able to do some retail/clerical work no problem.

In England you are meant toask school for permission - like that ever happens, and are only allowed to work between certain times for a limited number of hours. That was a while ago so it may have changed now. Is there a contact number on her work paper where she can get some advice?

Each state is different. Check with your states Department of Labor and Licensing (DLLR). Around here, they can work anywhere, just about. Restaurants have some restrictions on minors - they aren't allowed in walk-in freezers, they can't use meat slicers, serving alchoholic beverages, different things. Usually restaraunts will hire them for bussers or hostesses. Office work is sometimes available - even after hours. Right now would be a great time for her to hook up with an H&R Block or Jackson Hewitt - see if they need filing help and making calls in the evenings/weekends. I know of a guy who owns an insurance company that hires kids from the local High School to do filing after school. Check with the school and see what work/study programs are available, sometimes they can help place her in a job.

Here is an article I found that may be of some interest to you and your teen daughter. It may not be something either of you prefer to do, but it is surely something to think about. http://www.quintcareers.com/jobs_for_teens.html Good luck with finding a job for your daughter.

Hi blueskies, it is actually hard to find people willing to hire a 15-year old (at least it was for my kids in this area) there are a lot of restrictions, both federal and state, on what they can do and the number of hours they can work. My son had an easier time than my daughter. He was able to sign on at a large grocery store as a bag boy. They wouldn't hire my daughter there until she was 16 and could be a cashier! Places that were willing to hire my daughter were: library (reshelving books and helping out), McDonalds (front counter), a local dress shop, and J.C. Pennys (this is where she ended up!) Best of luck to your daughter on her first job! Here are the federal laws for a 14-15 year old, outlining the work they cannot do and the hours they are allowed to work. http://www.jobreadynow.org/jobbank/work14-15.cfm

My daighter will be 15 Friday and we have a small town resaurant around here that she can go to work at this summer. they said they would hire her to wash dishes and put together forks, spoons, and knives into napkins. Maybe you can try for something like that. Most places wants kids to be at least 16, so it's very tough for the 15 year olds.

Usually grocery stores allow 15 year olds to work there. My sister is 15 and said the grocery store near her hires 15 year olds, she's going to try and get a job there. I think she can only work 18 hours a week during the school year and then 40 hour a week when school's out.

As far as I know she can work for anyone who will hire her. Here mostly that is Meijer as a bagger or Kroger. And restaurants sometimes.

How about some food chains or parlor bars in your locality. It's better if she's with a company of her age and in an open environment. It's really not so safe to let a young girl like her work in a secluded places. Try places like for example McDos, Baskins & robins and sort of food chains like these in malls and grocery stores. It will also help her to interact with people and enhance her confidence and communication skills. Godspeed!

I would think that she would be able to work at fast food restaurants, like Wendy's, or maybe even a nursing home dietary department. Other than that, I'm not sure...

Unfortunately, I think her only option is McDonald's or something close to it. All of the places I've worked (Fred Meyer, Walmart, Kmart, etc.) would only hire people who were 16 or older. I should know; I tried to get a job at Fred Meyer when I was 15. I got hired and was filling out my paperwork when the manager realized I was only 15, so she told me to call back in six months when I turned 16. So I called the day after my birthday and got the job.
