Boomerang means "come back" or give back in the same coin.

As far as I know it was so popular in the 1880s when world expeditions was on its high. Europeans and Americans were sailing in the high seas across all the continents in hopes of more tea, gold, opium, and so forth and so on. The natives of the islands and countries used their bolos and spears to defend their territories against other sailors who employed boomerang to scare the natives, which far outnumbered them, back into the forests and mountains.
