My exhaust fell off my car today !!! My Big question :)

Everybody was laughing and where does it have to happen ! in front of a highschool ..omg i wanted to die..ppl were staring and laughing and stuff i didnt know what to do ,so i drove with it clattering on the road like as if i was dragging another car underneath me down to the garage and my buddies pulled the exhaust like right off and said it would be cool to drive with it off..is it ok to drive without it?
