Do you recycle?

I have been in my house for over two years and the trash company has yet to send us the bins to sort through my garbage for metal, plastic, and paper. I can understand if you are using tons of paper or want to throw away all the junk mail and Sunday newspaper to recycle it. Milk cartons and other plastics, yes. Metal... ALUMINUM. We have more aluminum on the planet than any other metal on earth. The COST to reproduce goods from recycled products is a lot less so it makes sense that companies use those materials. They need those materials so they encourage people to recycle. Your thoughts...

I'm not sure where you live, but here we had to report to the municipal building and request bins to sort through when we lived in the city. Now we live out in the country and we are responsible for hauling our own recyclables to the center. I don't mind doing it. We just bought three bins and when it comes time to take the stuff to the center, we load them into the jeep and take them.

I live in a small community. We have a very good recycle program here. Better than the big cities where we moved from. I have several garabage cans in my house. One for paper and food. One for plastics and things that cannot be recycled. One for tin cans, plastics and glass that can be recycled and finally one for pop cans. They also go through all the trash and seprate it at the waste plant. It seems like alot but it's second nature after doing this for 12 years. I'm all for whatever will help the enviroment.

If you have clutter and/or items around your house you dont want to be bothered with selling or taking to the dump - then Freecycle is for you at www.freecycle.org for a Freecycle group in your area. Freecycle is international. Recycle items to avoid overfilling the garbage dumps and make space in your home. One man's trash is another man;s treasure" truely applies here. I have given away so many things that I almost trashed that someone wanted and even came and carted it away. You can put in requests, too, and from there I received a free handicapped electric lift recliner worth over $400.00 someone didnt need anymore! The only requirement is that you cant give away forbidden items like explosives and such and everything must be FREE, you cant barter, exchange or sell. Try it yourself!

We recycle as much as we can. So far, curb side pickup will only take paper, aluminum and steel cans, garden clippings. They really need to get there act in gear and pick up more items. Not everyone drives so we can't take our stuff to a center. I'm really surprised they don't pick up plastic and glass. The councils need to get their act in gear.

I would think plastic would be the first thing they would pick up as that is what is most harmful to the environment.

I strongly agree with you that recycle is a good way to save cost. Besides it eleminates some enviounmental hazards. As per my knowledge if plastic is buried in the earth for a long time then that part of earth will lose its fertility power for ever. It is so dangerous.

I don't believe it is forever but the plastic stays around for hundreds of years.

I've lived in a lot of places, I love it when they have curbside pick up. I've had to sort things myself and drive to a recycling station, which if you think about wastes gas. But I still recycle everything I can regardless of where I live and I try to buy things that are made from recyclable material. I want to start composting when I own my own home too!

Remember if you live in a house with a HOA (Homeowner's Association) the chances of you being able to own a compositng hopper are slim to none.

Yes I am sure that will be nice. We live in a subdivision and it feels like if I stretch my arms in either direction I can touch both my neighbor's houses, not to mention the street and walkway right in front of the house and the golf course path in the backyard. On the bright side... there is not all that much grass to cut!

oh when we buy a house, it will not be in suburbia! I want land so my son can play without touching pavement!
