Best Responses?

I have noticed within the past couple of days that best responses are being given within just a few hours of the discussion being posted. I wait at least a few days if not longer. Here are my reasons and I would like to know if you agree or disagree and why?
1. Unfair to user who cannot respond immediately. Many have jobs, families etc. and cannot get the time to post until later.
2. It deters users from giving their best, quality responses. Why bother it'll get one point with it's great or not.
3. Some users will not respond to your discussions at all.

I totally agree with you whiteheather, I'm surprised too when I see a best response has been marked within 24 hours of starting the discussion. Agreed, its done at the sole discretion of the one who starts the discussion, but I feel we aren't being given a fair chance. But again this doesn't stop me form responding to the discussion if I have something meaningful to share. After all getting marked with the best response isn't the only thing to look forward to here:)

Yes I agree with you completely, I wait several weeks before giving a best respnse (in the hope that more than 1 person will actually respond to my discussion). Some people respond after several weeks or even months (two I responded to today were two months old, i didn't realise that until I had responded). While it is nive getting a best response it is not the end of the world if I don't get one.
It unfortunate that you can't give a more definitave rating to the responses that you do get, the + or - is not shown on the sites.

You are right. I don't always do that, and I am guilty. But most of the time I do wait. I have only rated right away when it was very outstanding. I am not anymore though. I am waiting a few days now. Thank you for posting this. Blessings, M&M

I have also noticed that some posters are marking a best response after just the third response, and the I don't believe they bother to visit their discussion again. They just continue to post more topics and do the same thing all over again. I post my response just the same, as other respondants might be like me. I like to read all the responses that people receive to their topics.

I read all responses and rate 99% the one perent is that the English is so bad I have no idea what they mean or if they being nast yand it's not worth a (+) but I would not penalize someone with a (-) just because I could not undertand them. If that's the case then I dont rate them at all.

I so agree with 1-3!!!! It kills me to see some one giving best repsonse to the first person the replies. Now I just pass them up when they do that. Like you said, why bother? I have plenty of posts in a days time I could recieve best response from, so I won't waste my time on theirs.

yeah a lot of person give best responses to their friends to make them profitable...
but it's just unfair cause if u once mark somebody's response best there will be no way to take it back...
and if u find a better response later u will not be able to change ur mind...

I usually wait 4 or 5 days before I choose a best response. I agree with your reasoning. I want to give people time to get to my discussion and give good, thought out answers. I have been happy to see that even after I've chosen a best response I do still get some great answers to my discussions. I don't think the fact I've already chosen a best response deters most people that respond. I've responded to quite a few discussions that already have selected a best response.

I've seen a lot of those. I think the most who does this are those newbie's or those of whom didn't pay attention on how to use it responsibly. Actually there's one newbie here who marks respondents as best response by the time the first ten answers would finish, but actually didn't understand the way it works and how it should be used. Then the poster starts a discussion asking, "How can they rate those who responds at their posts." Which means, they didn't know how to use it and that they just reward it to anyone they want to. Wasted a lot of points for others who would've been more deserving..

I agree, best responses should be given until there are likely not a lot more response you'll receive on a given discussion, or if it's a real hot topic after several days. Btw, pardon the noobishness but what do we get for a best response?

It increases your reputation (shown in your star...which you get after you have 100 points) and as far as I know the higher your repuation the better your earnings.

I also wait a few days. 1.) I work and many times I am on page 3-10 when I do answer some questions. 2.) I think I still give quality responses, but sometimes I feel that if they have already marked best response after 3-4 people answer their discussion, that there is a good chance they are not reading anymore responses. Why bother answering if someone isn't going to read it? 3.) I pretty much feel that a discussion is closed if the best response is marked. If I notice that it has been marked, sometimes I do not respond to the discussion.

Your standards in selecting your best responses is simply the most acceptable. There are actually some who just tend to mark as best response those who responded first. I think it is good if the best response mark is given to the most deserving response for you.

I agree with you..since I am rather new here and I posted a few things and only got 1-2 responses after 2-3 days I assigned my best response and then found that I had many more responses later on ...Now I will wait as it does make it more fair and you really have better material to choose from.. You make good points...and I have learned alot in the past few days...I always assigne a best response and I always rate...Thanks for posting an informative piece..especially for us newbies!!!

i agree with what you have mentioned above. i would like to add another reason why some lotters give best response to some users maybe they are they're friends =) this is just an assumption =) anyways, anyone who don't agree with me feel free to response to this comment =)
