I think it is good to keep up with what is going on in the world, but alot of it is repeated over and over and some of it is very depressing. I mainly watch the news for the weather but then I hear other stories that keep me interested in watching more. I like to stay informed but I tend to shut it off when they keep speaking of all negative things in the world. It would be nice to watch it sometime and hear good things that will come for all of us. Don't you think also?

While the news can be very depressing I have to ask myself do I let that stop me.
There are many things in this world that can be very depressing. But they still happen to someone.
I often find that the more depressing something is perhaps the more we should pay attention. For if we don't those bad things may very well come home to roost.
Thank you for your response.

Watching the news everyday does make us better informed but it could also mis-inform you (depending on what news you watch). There are some times when you get two different pieces of information that negate each other. It's only important if you feel it is. I like to keep up with it so I have some conversation material when I'm with people but other than that I don't care about it that much.

I have to admit that I never really kept up with the news much at all until coming here to the Mylot site. Now I read a lot of posts about things that are going on in the news, as well as researching into the news more myself so that I have interesting topics to post about. I guess that I got by in the previous years of my life knowing little of the news other than the really major events that we should all be aware of, that you could not avoid hearing even if you tried - but I do believe that it is a help to have at least some idea of what is going on in the world around us. I just don't like all the negative and depressing stories on the news, so I've never enjoyed watching it.

I used to watch the evening news every day and sometimes CNN. But I have done this much less over the last few years. I got to thinking about if it made any differance in my life and I had to admit it truly didn't. I have always known that you need to take what you hear with a grain of salt. Most is usually good but there is a lot of misinformation also.

for me, it is important to keep up with the news, for information and also to be aware of certain issues that's affecting the place the i live in and of course about the country. sometimes, i do think that the media also is using too much it's rights about free expression because sometimes i think some news are quite one-sided. anyweiz, it still depends on the watcher or reader on whether to dig deeper on the subject news.

I had hoped someone point his out. While it is clear that each news service seems to have it's bias I think on the really big issues you will see much simularity at least on the breaking news stories.
As long as we comapre news services for anything we may be interested in I think we will determine the real truth.
The day that all news services begin to say the same exact thing we will all be in truoble. For they will be strongly influanced by the goverment and the one thing we need to hear the most we never will. One of the first things a dictator does is get control of the news media. So while not perfect they represent our hold on the truth. It is still up to us to dicide for our self what that truth is.

Of course. If you watch the news you are able to know all facts that happen all over the world and consequently you will learn more and know if someone ask you. We learn a lot reading books, going to school, reading newspaper and watching TV too. I love watch news and read. I prefer sit down in my sofa and after lanch watch news to know the notice of the day. I like to stay informed.

i don't watch the news ever. . .it doesn't matter to me if i'm informed about what's going on or not. i think the news is too depressing -- they only portray the bad and evilness in the world. they should tell good stuff that is happening too and then maybe i'd watch it.

While an effort should be made to present the good things people do to balance out the bad to completely ignore the events of the day may not be the best idea.
But thank you for your comment.

Hi Jb! Well, I like to watch the news. But not on a daily basis, because some news are sort of confusing when they are repeated daily. And I also think, the news give us great infos on other countries. But not all are complete. Sadly, the bad sides are more emphasize than the good ones. So to be inform better, to watch or read other sources of information aside from the news is important too. So we have a more generalize views of all events, countries..etc. So we can compare and have our own conclusion, and not really on the sole conclusion some news wants us to believe.
Have a great day! (^^,)
