My son is only 12 months old. And he will not believe in Santa Clause or the Easter Bunny or the tooth fairy. I've always thought it was kind of silly to tell kids that they are real. I don't ever remember thinking they were real, my mom says I found out when I was 3 that they weren't. My brother had a big mouth.
Anyway, my husband and I have decided that we are going to let our son know when he's still really small that they aren't real. We think that will make it easier for us to explain to him the real meaning of the holidays. He will still receive presents, but he will know they are from Mommy and Daddy, instead of a fat guy in a red suit. :)

My child now is nine years old. I think by now he is beginning to realize that Santa Claus is hot real. But from the very start, me and my wife have made him to believe that Santa is around and watching kids if they are naughty or nice and during Christmas time, Santa will bring gifts to those who are good. Well, I will just let him realize on his own that Santa is not there. But what is important is that he will know that Santa is in each and every one of us.

It was sooooo much fun when my kids were little and they all "believed" . We made a big deal out of every holiday and lost tooth. Those days just go by way to fast.
As the older boys quit believing we got them in on the fun for the littler ones. This way the magic of the holidays was preserved for a few more years.
