We need a new sofa and the one I want is $2,500. I know this may seem like a lot, but it is a leather sectional with 2 recliners. The sofa we have now was only $488, 10 years ago. It is green leather and has taken a beating with 2 kids and 2 dogs.

If you can afford it, I say get the one you want. A sofa is the main accent piece in a living room or family room.
When I first moved out of my parent's home....21 years ago I moved to an efficiency apt. The one piece I actually bought (that wasn't from a cheap store or IKEA) was a sofa bed because my new place had a bedroom/living room combo and I wanted the room to "look" like a living room. I had a custom sofa made and it was $1000. I look back on that and can't believe I spend that much in 1985! I bought another new sofa about 4 years ago and paid the same amount. It makes me giggle!

i would spend between $800 and $1200 on a new couch depending on the style of the couch. $2500 is quite a bit of money but if it's micro fiber and stain resistant then i guess it would be worth it.
