You have $100 and you have to buy 100 items.
The menu is:
Burger= $5
Tea = $1
Candy = 20 per $1
The condition is that you have to buy each item, means you cannot leave any item, you have to bouy every item whether one or 20 .
Remember, You have to buy 100 items with $100.
Lets see how smart you are.

This is a question that we tackled with Algebra in Grade 7. But my son is not doing any advacned maths like what we did. OK. Here goes the answer.
I have to buy 'b' Burgers, 't' Teas and 'c' Candies.
So my cost in cents will be:
(500 x b) + (100 x t) + (5 x c) = 10000
As we have to buy 100 items
b + t + c = 100
From the first formula we can say buy converting the other two to zero that the maximum value for the three are
b = 20 t = 100 c = 100
But since this involves calculating scenarios and possibilities I uses an Excel sheet to work it out.
And we get b =19, t=1, c = 80 which is true for both the above formulas.
So it is 19 Burghers, 1 Tea, and 80 Candy's.

Someone might wonder how we are to find the value of 3 variables with only 2 formulas. So I thought of showing how to tackle it without using the computer.
We have two formulas and 3 variable to find.
Formula 1 500b + 100t + 5c = 10000
Fromula 2 b + t + c = 100
As we have only 2 formulaes we will assume that b is also a number and simplyfy them.
Formula 1 100t + 5c = 10000 - 500b
Formula 2 x 5 5t + 5c = 500 - 5b
Dedcut the Second Fromula from the 1st one
95t = 9500 - 495b
Divide by 5
19t = 1900 - 99b
This is as far as we can come (to my knowledge)
But we know that t is a whole number and b is less than 20.
So just keep substituting numbers to b and see how many times we get a whole number for t. This happens only when b is 19 at which point t = 1. So the problem is solved.
