Does a woman have to give a man a gift on Valentines Day?

I know it is expected that men bring something else they are sleeping on the couch or getting no callbacks, but does the woman have to return the favor?
I for one hate shopping for valentines day gift but i love to recieve them, am i selfish if i tell my husband "i'll make it up to you on your birthday"?

My 'present' was to bring my lovely wife breakfast in bed this morning and a nice cuddle.
I never expect a present or card from her - I've always thought this was a man's thing today.
But I have had the occasional card in the past - scented and anonymous!!
