Worshiping Christ in Heaven

Recently I have been thinking a lot about what heaven will be like and what our relationship with Christ will be. The Bible says that in heaven, we will basically be worshiping God 24/7 (I know there is no time in heaven...Im just making a comparison). I love the Lord with all my heart, believe me, I just have been wondering some. This world isn't an easy place to live in and heaven is supposed to be the place of eternal reward. Therefore, my question is this -- what is our reward in heaven? Is it *just* worshiping Christ/God and fellowshiping with Him (which is awesome of course, Im not downplaying that at all). OR will we also get to spend time with our loved ones who are also in heaven. I am asking this because I am getting ready to get married and it seems like such a short time on earth to love some one. And if God values marriage so highly, then why wouldn't He also allow us to spend time with our mates in heaven as well. I know that there will be no "marriage" in heaven, but what about just having a fellowship and being able to spend time with our loved ones in heaven. No offense to God, but I want some "me" time in heaven too, not just Him time...because Him time will be all the time because He will be with us everywhere all the time. But will we also be able to enjoy just *being* in heaven? Hope this isn't too complicated a question. In His Servce, Allison

I can see where you are coming from and understand the questioning. It is pretty complicated since the Bible really doesn't reveal too much about what it will be like for us in heaven and I don't know that I or anyone can give you a real answer because of that but, I can offer my opinion. What matters to us here on Earth will probably not matter in heaven so the "me" time may not be an issue. You won't be tired (reward) or frustrated (reward) or need a break from the day to day routine (reward) so what's the purpose of "me" time? No need for vacations because all is perfect and you NEED NOTHING (reward). No sickness (reward). See where I'm going with this? There is so much here on earth we are used to having to go through that we don't even think about how great it would be if we didn't have to go through that. When we think "reward" we tend to think of actually getting our hands on something just for us and I suppose in a way that's true but if you NEED to not be tired...Does that make sense? I think I'm rambling and really don't mean to. I just think things in heaven will be so different that we cannot possibly imagine it while we are stuck here on earth. The things we think or worry over will be so far from our thoughts because we will be in constant fellowship with Him and that is our greatest reward. Also I think that whatever reward we get we will be sooo undeserving. So unworthy. Why would God give us any type of "reward" at all? Only one reason. He loves us that much. In Christ, Cathy

Heaven is in a completely different plane and level of existence compared to where we are now. It is difficult to make comparisons between this life and life in heaven. We are bound in time and nature and tend to understand and interpret things based on our perspective of life on earth. God has lots of things in store for those who have faith in Him, things that are beyond our comprehension and imagination. When I ponder about this matter, I always think of the caterpillar analogy. It couldn't see things beyond an inch of it's sight and maybe thinking that the world is just like what appears to it but when it turns into a butterfly and learned to fly, a completely new world will be opened to it. To be in Heaven is to meet and live in the presence of our creator whom we have not seen but trusted all these years. For that alone, Heaven will be a wonderful place.

I think there will be a "mission" for us just like there is a "mission" for the angels when they ascended. We will have stuff to do based on our unique abilities and interests. We won't be married in heaven, but we can still work as a partnership with people that we were attached to in life, if we want and if they want. The main difference is that we will all be united as one with God, so there won't be any bickering about what faith is best or what the truth is because it will all be revealed exactly as it is to everyone. We worship Him by wanting to be with Him and do his will. And, we will love it. I think that, maybe, we have to help other beings in the universe, or perhaps we help with developing planets and animals. I'm sure God will have a plan for everyone up there that will be very pleasing. I think it will be a lot of fun.

I don't know, if I can have eternity in Heaven rather than the alternative I look forward to "Him" time every second. I honestly don't think it will matter, I think once we are there it will be so different from what we are used to here on earth that we won't be comparing life there to life here anymore.

I guess my thing is, is that we search our whole lives for husbands and wives to spend our lives with and the Bible clearly places a huge emphasis on marriage and fellowship with that person. Therefore, why would we be denied that same person in heaven too. Like, will I get to also be with my husband in heaven? I know marriage won't be the same as it is here, but I do want to be with him in heaven. That's all Im saying. Will we get to do that? Will parents get to be with their children, will friends get to be together?

Well, I believe that marriage is supposed to be a partnership to do the work of the Lord. So, maybe that connection will still exist in heaven if you need to do something in heaven together. I also think you will be with your children who are there as well as your ancestors. I don't think we will feel the same about people because a lot of our feelings and actions are based on what our bodies want. Once we're free of those bodies, things will be different. I agree, we won't be comparing life there to here any longer.

desertdarlene I hadn't thought of it that way, our earthly feelings being more physical, this is very true.

I have to say that I read the same thing. The twenty four elders worship God day and night. You have to remember one thing though, the Bible says that we will be changed. We wont have the same needs in heaven that we have down here. We have never experienced the complete awesomeness of God. The Bible says that God is love and why would we want anything else but complete and total love, acceptance and security. I mean, if you think about it, those are the things that we long for on earth.
