Have you ever used a food bank?
I have started to recently and am saving heaps. I spend $35 a fortnight now on groceries and get box of fresh fruit and veg, bag of frozen items, bag of pantry items( biscuits, meal packets etc), bag of cold items (cheeses, drinks, butter etc). It normally lasts us the 2 weeks and kids love it as you never know what special treats you are going to get. They also give away free food now and then.

They are truly wonderful things these foodbanks and they are run for the needy and not the greedy. Many of them actually have the sort of variety that you are talking about mystikel.
There is one at Wagga Wagga and they run it along similar lines but people actually can buy up to $40/week worth of groceries from them. They do have a very wide variety of stuff from cereals to frozen stuff as you mention. Also they are open 3 days a week, so those who are eligible can get free bread on each those days plus they can also get free fruit and vegetables that are available. They have fairly strict criteria for who is eligible, i.e. pensioners, low income earners and those with a health care card.
In general they are excellent and do a wonderful job giving a helping hand to those in need. I actually applaud those who give up their time to do this sort of thing because in most cases they are volunteers.

I have found it a great service, I hurt myself at work over 2 months ago and havent got back to normal hours yet so have been missing out on that pay. Saving money with food has helped heaps.
They even called me last week to invite me to a party night they are having on the weekend, free food, entertainment and baby sitting.Bit nervous about going but shoulkd be a good night.

Is the injury to your back mystikel? It is a long time to be off work, particularly as you are supporting the children by yourself. I do hope that you did go to the party on the weekend, as it would have done you the world of good to get out and meet some new people. I am sure that there would have been at least 2 decent people there for you to talk to. :)

Yes I have. Sometimes we need a little help. Here is a link for one that is all over the United States. Thought I would share it in case anyone needs a little help.
