Are we destined to be like our parents?

No I don't think so because I'm really nothing like my mother, and I'm glad I'm not. I don't want to be like her and as far as I'm concerned, I am nothing like her.

parents are only guiding us. it depends upon the family situation , financial position and other constraints. they just grow us with the available resources of their age and period,. now it is we to take over the situation and if u want to improve to some kind of fashion or luxury situation, it is left with you . often we should not feel or complain over our parents .

Hopefully, you were lucky to have good parents. And if so, there's nothing wrong with being like them.
My parents both abandoned me when I was young, and I was raised by my grandparents. They made a lot of mistakes raising me, and my self-esteem suffered a lot. So, I have good reason not to want to be like my parents.
It all depends on who your parents are. If they're good role models, then go ahead and emulate them. If they're not, then it's probably better not to be like them.

I think we are like our parents or rather, like our primary caregivers. When we're kids, we learn our parent's values and expectations and usually those values are ingrained into us as we grow. In most cases, we learn good morals like don't steal, don't cheat, don't lie etc. And I think we go through a stage where we either reject their morals or make them our own - and this process is what makes us like our parents or primary caregivers because we realize that a lot (not necessarily all) of their values are important to us too.
