Catching up with 'old-friends': better on-line than in person?

I have several old friends that have either drifted away or I've separated myself from. I'd really love to know how they're doing and where life has taken them- without the commitment of a full-blown relationship. I just posted to a mylot friend and was reminiscing about an old school friend of mine. My impulse is: CALL HER. My reason tells me: Not all of that again! Do you guys feel the same way?

Well, I don't think I've ever felt that way, I mean, if I don't want to "restart" the friendship, then chances are, I don't really care to find out what's going on in their life? And if they haven't called YOU, maybe they feel the same way :D
Or maybe not. Sometimes people just forget.

well, it happened to me many times...there is no simple answer to this question...I think that it depends on how things ended between you and each of the friends you are talikng about...I mean, if you ended your friendship because of an argument or something disappointing there is no point in calling after such a long time...if you separated only because of life and business and affairs and problems and time...well it is always a nice surprise to receive a call from a friend that is still a friend in your heart and it is far from you only because of time and space...

The great thing about talking online is that you can be as longwinded or as brief as you like. You don't have to worry about disturbing someone because they will look at it when they feel like it. OK, that's two things. The third is that you can be a bit distant if you want to.
Even with people that you like very much and enjoy talking to, sometimes you don't want to start a conversation because you know you will be on the phone for two hours.
