I recently returned from teaching school in a small (by China's standards)city in Northern China.I taught english to kindergarten, and to three other classes consisting of children of various age groups. I was the first white female to vist this town and was warmly accepted by some and was the object of curiousity by others. My stay was for four months. The towns dignitaries laid on some wonderful 'feasts'and although part of the time I din't know what I was eating the food was very delicious. My favourite, dare I write it, was dog meat. It is a speciality in this part of China,as is donkey meat, also good but a little chewy for my taste. What a wonderful trip this was,I could go on for hours about my various experiences, some quite fearful in hindsite, but I was kept safe. I would love to hear from others who have been to this part of the world or have been on another exotic type of adventure.

Uhm, did you say dog meat? What kind of dog was it? Actually the idea of eating dog meat and not knowing it gives me pause about living or teaching in China. Right now. I'm living and teaching in Puerto Rico. There are a couple of students in the Masters TESL program here who have taught in China. I got to remember to ask them if they've ever had dog meat.

Yes dog meat. I don't know what kind it was. I love to eat different and exotic foods. Don't let this prevent you from going to China, travel is always a wonderful experience, and it is a beautiful country steeped in history.

Maybe I could survive if I stuck to American fast foods but then again the sight or aroma of dog meat in the air might make it difficult for me to keep food down.
