I was the first person in my family with a computer, and the first in my group of friends (this was years ago)
My problem happened when I got my computer, I somehow lost the command interpreter. I had no clue what it was or what it did. I ended up taking it to a repair shop and paying a guy $45 to install it. It took about 3 minutes tops. I decided to take a computer repair course, so I could fix my computer myself. I later took the MCSE course, so I could network my home computers and printer together.
Well, that sure opened up a mess for me! My friends and family all got computers, and they all want me to fix them. For Free! Now, I don't mind helping someone out, but come on, I constantly have someone calling me to come over and look at the computer. My husband has even offered my services to his coworkers. For Free!
I have kept myself up to date on the technology and software applications, but sometimes I catch myself telling people that I don't have any idea what is wrong with the computers. I know that is bad, but, my gosh, enough is enough.

I agree with you completly....and not only with computers.....recently i recived a tattoo kit from ebay...and im starting in the tattoo and piercing business.....and all my friends and family think they are gonna get free tattoos and piercings.....i dont think so....yes..ill give my parents free tattoos and i have already...but they raised me and gave me everything......so why not......but i will not give them away for free to anyone else....the supplies cost money...and that would put me in the hole....so I tell them NO! I dont care wat they think of me for saying no!...Cant start a business and do it for free...lol

Oh I know all about this one. I used to be the annoying person asking for help from friends when i first got a computer about four years back. I'd ask how to fix something, or how to do something at least once a day. After a while people got irritated with my questions, so i taught myself a lot through trial and error so i didn't have to drive people up the wall.
Kingcheeko, just like you, I still have a lot to learn about computers too, but I've had people ring me during work, and when i really don't feel like going into detail about fixing something over the phone instead of face to face, and they just won't listen when i say "i'll come over on the weekend and try to help you out". They don't seem to understand that it's pretty hard sometimes to try and fix something when you're not siting in front of the computer that needs help.
Having said that though, i also remember how much help i got and how irritating i was, so i try to do my best for people. :)

Exactly the same happens with me. I spend almost 20hrs per day sitting in front of the computer, downloading apps, games, etc. My mom & dad are always finding some ways to get rid of my computer so that i concentrate only on my studies, but i hardly study. As I spend all my time in front of my computer everyone thinks I am a Computer Genius, anyone has a problem in his system comes running up to me that I'll fix that problem of their computer. I do know something of the computers and can fix small problems, I only know the 60% of hardware and about programming I know only few of it (VB, C, C++, JavaScript, HTML, PHP, SQL) but thats the real thing that a person should know about computers (programming), Hardware any fool can learn. I had won several 1st prizes in Hardware Assembling Competition held in other schools as well as in my school, the teachers also think that I am a Computer Genius. The teachers also come running to me if they had a problem in their systems, but the real thing is only known to my Computer teacher (less programming skills). Thats my experience.
