Just 10 years to save the world, warn scientists.

The world has just 10 years to reverse the green house gas emmissions or risk runaway climate change that could make many parts of the planet uninhabitable.
The warning comes from scientists who are working on the final draft of a new report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
They conclude that unless mankind rapidly stabilises greenhouse gas emmissions and starts reducing them, it will have little chance of keeping global warming within manageable limits.
The results could be the loss of vast tracks of land under rising seas as the ice caps melt and the forced migration of millions of people from equatorial regions. In southern europe the summers could become unbearably hot while Britain and northern europe would face summer droughts and wet, stormy winters.
"The next 10 years are crucial," said Richard Betts, leader of a research team at the Met Office Hadley Centre for climate prediction."In that decade we have to achieve serious reductions in carbon emmissions. After that time the task becomes very much harder."His warnings were backed up by Malte Meinshausen, a researcher at the Potsdam Institute in Germany and also by all the renowned climate monitoring centres of the world.
Its time that we seize the initiative before global warming seizes it.

Sure people never understand until something really happens. Even i wasn't aware of it until i read the article about global warming and i was surprised to read that environment is being damaged so much. Things like air conditioners have become a necessity today so the only way we can encourage others to help the wnvironment is to plant more trees and use environment friendly items. Its time that we help environment in order to help ourselves.

We should help the environment in order to help ourselves or else your statement can turn real. I feel most people are not aware of the disastrous effects of global warming and many feel its not that serious a problem. Sure it will take some time to hurt the environment completely but we shouldn't be waiting for that time, we should be contributing whatever we can towards the betterment of environment.

Maybe we should start walking instead of driving. There is very interesting book published:
"The Road More Traveled: Why the Congestion Crisis Matters More Than You Think, and What We Can Do About It"
