I purchased my first mountain bike last December of 2005 just for the purpose of developing a hobby, and a practical way to get from point A to point B. I never thought i would get hooked up with it so much that every now and then i had to buy parts for upgrade. By the next month, i am already a member of a biking community that trecks in Macapagal during Sundays. Now i use my bike virtually whenever i step out of the house - when leaving for work, going to church, buying stuffs (the nearest mall allows mountain bike parking), etc. I was actually saving a lot of money with this hobby as i am using this for more than 1 year now. Oftentimes when i am free, I also go to other places on my own, though so far the farthest i have been is to SM Mall of Asia. Currently i have an MTB equipped with various Shimano Alivio limited set, and the first bike i purchased ended up being a whole unit again that i eventually sold to a friend. Are there any local bikers here who wants to share their experiences on this interest? How often do you trek with you bike? what bike do you have,

Have you ever heard of the Tour of the Fireflies? This is an annual event participated in by thousands of bikers from Metro Manila and nearby provinces. This year's Tour will be on April 15, 2007 at Tiendesitas, Pasig City. It will start at 7:00 am. I have been biking since 2000 and currently, I bike to work, mainly for the exercise and as an added bonus, I get to my work for free! I have started a blog about my biking experiences and if you have time please visit it at wwww.ruralpinoybiker.wordpress.com . There are other forums for bikers from pinas. Try these: 1) http://pinoymtbiker.proboards7.com/ 2)http://groups.yahoo.com/group/fireflybrigade/ 3)http://groups.yahoo.com/group/PhilippineCyclingNetwork/ 4)http://www.fireflybrigade.org (not a forum but this is the group that promotes the Tour of the Fireflies. Hope this helps.

hey... I am a local biker too. But I only bike whenever I stay in the province. I use a supercomfort hybrid bike. You know the ones often used by koreans and chinese. I plan to bring my bike here in Manila, but I don't know how, and what i need to transport it. Moreover, biking is a good cardio. If you're not up for jogging, biking is a good alternative. It could be both an exercise and a way to spend time with friends while getting some fresh air.
