Hello all..first off, Happy Valentines Day!
For all of you photograpy lovers out there, do you prefer black and white photos, color photos or sepia photos?
My personal choice would have to be black and white. I love the look of black and white photos..they just feel so warm and inviting.
Thank you all :)

Black and white pics are classic...they go in any room also. I do however love sepia for that aged look. It depends on the subject in or of the photo.

My favorite subjects for B&W are my daughters. I have alot of 8x10 B&W's of them in my house, and will be adding lots more soon :)

Children look exceptionally great in black and white pictures..don't know quite how to explain it but it seems like they are forever captured in time...more so than color photos.

I have to agree. I mainly shoot in black and white with my manul, and only in color with my digital. The digital camera is really weak and it shakes a lot, so I prefer to use either my friend's digital or my own manual. My mother was a photographer, as well as my father, and they both had a love for shooting in black and white; I have a feeling that's where it came from. SOme of the photos my parents took for college assignments or portfolios, I have kept and framed, using them as the artwork in my room. Black and white photos, to me, seem to capture memories better, but that's just my opinion overall.

That's pretty much what I do too. The analog is for b/w, and the digital slr is for color. Digital b/w prints just don't look as good as gelatin silver. And hand processing your own stuff is so satisfying. You don't get that feeling pushing pixels around. So, I'd have to say B/W is my favorite, then sepia, then color. I'd like to get into cyanotypes, but I don't have any large enough negatives.

It's funny, but I'm starting to like sepia more and more. I don't generally shoot in anything but color. I always seem to regret it later if I do. Instead, I'll change the photo to black and white or sepia in PhotoShop later. Even though my point and shoot digital camera will let you shoot directly in black and white, sepia, or even cyanotype (not sure where that one comes in handy).

I do the same. My camera will also shoot with different color options, but I find it easier and a safer bet to shoot in color and then see the different effects on the computer. Thanks for your reply :)

For myself it depends on the picture. What the background is, the subject in it, and even the time of day for the image. Some look spectacular in full color but then seeing them in other formats can really change the perspective of the photos. Same with a black and white where the shadows really play an important part and can alter how things appear. Put it in color or Sepia and suddenly everything changes. Each picture has to be determined on it's own.

Exactly. I totally agree that to actually see what format is best, you must see them all. To put a vivid sunset into B&W, for some, may be taking away the whole picture, but I think that in some pictures, it makes your imagination do the work...you know what it would look like in your mind but not someone else's.

I like all of the above. I think it would depend on the setting and what it was for really. I know that taking black and white pictures of my son while he was in the grass touching flowers and such was very nice. So it just depends on what you want. What I love to see is a black and white picture of snow and a red bird in the picture. Very pretty.

Photo mods are really fun to do! I love doing the B&W with a color film just on one thing. Thanks for responding.

Happy Valentines to you too :) I love black and white photos but only as what I call the "artsy" pictures. I like color for family and everyday works. As well as for most nature work too. I love the vibarint colors. Sepia is one of my least favorite.

I prefer to shoot in full color because then i can change them to B&w or Sepia or a color tone as the feel of the picture presents. My all time fav is black and white with color accents. It really brings a bit more to the photo.

The type of photograph will decide if it should be in color, black and white or tinted as sepia. It is not everytime that a photograph will work as color or as black and white.
I do love black and white and sometimes put some tint on it. However, I have photographs that will work best in color.

I always take color and prefer then because I like taking landscapes and sunrises. I think color is best for that.
I think at times black and white would be good, but I have never used it.
