Should we play Pathan instead of Sehwag from now on?

Hi, do you think Pathan has to be in the playing 11, opening with ganguly or play in the middle order instead of sehwag in the next match against srilanka and the world cup? I am asking this because sehwag is pathetically failing as a batsman time and again, be it opening or middle order. I'm sure pathan will contribute better than him as a batsman in the present circumstances. Plus he is a good swing bowler significantly better than sehwag. Kindly give your unbiased comments without any personal preference for the goodness of team india. Thanks.

I'm asking because, although according to you both are good players, one is finding consistent chance in the playing 11 inspite of batting poorly whereas the other one is in the reserve bench inspite of contributing better than sehwag as a batsman besides being a bowler naturally.

i think you have to give sehwag another chance and see what he does.. meanwhile zaheer is bowling well.. lets giv him rest and give irfana chance aswell... world cup playing 11 and all cant be made sure nw itself...

yes...in today's match sehwag scored only 12 runs...he's out of form...to prove the talent of pathan,he can be given chance...but i should be in the mind of the selectors..today he failed to do in his usual down,opening..so pathan should be given chance...pathan bats well..so he's an all rounder the team wanted..

pathan is a great swing bowler. moreover, he can contribute a fair bit with the bat. most likely is that he would make an equal or even better contribution than sehwag. because sehwag cannot capitalise on his starts and gets out to carelessly flamboyant shots. so in all respects, pathan is a better choice. the ultimate decision, though, should be based on form and fitness.

my ubiased views is that you are correct. playing pathan instead of veeru, would give india the option including another batsman/bowler (whichever is required)

Looking at the way things are going right now,it would be a better idea to play Pathan. Not doubting Sehwag's calibre but when things are going wong then we need to be practical.

i am sorry to tell u this..this is why pathan has lost his form in bowling.. he concentrated in batting and lost his line and length completelt..first of all he is a bowler and then only he is a batsman...he should never think of batting at middle order or open indian innings...it is good if pathan replaces sehwag and take part in playing eleven..but he should bat only at no.7 or lower than that..

Hi, I understand. I don't want pathan to predominantly contribute in his batting. See, sehwag is chosen for the middle order against the lankans as a batsman where he has failed. I think that if the slot is given to pathan instead, we are getting a bowler as well as a better batsman than sehwag in the present circumstances in one stroke. You can see the relevance of the discussion if you realise that our part time bowlers gave 64 runs in 10 overs in goa. Don't you think pathan will bowl his 10 overs better and score more than sehwag if chosen in his place?

the bating average of pathan is 25 while that of shewag is 35. that itself shows that shewag is a better batsman (remember that shewag has played twice the number of matches pathan has).
sewag has a top score of 130 which means that if he is in the flow. he could be the winning key. but that of pathan is only 83.
no doubt pathan is a better bowler.
its true that shewag has not done very well any of the recent matches but still we cannot risk his place in the team because he too good to be not included in the team.

Hi, thanks for your observation. But if you consider sehwag's average and top score in the last one year, and compare it with pathan's contribution coming 1 down, I'm sure pathan's batting average will be definitely better than sehwag's. What I'm feeling is, at present, pathan can easily contribute better than sehwag's 19 and 12 isn't it? And people have been repeatedly saying that on his day sehwag can be a matchwinner but for the last 2 years nearly that day hasn't yet come.

well
We should play Pathan in place of Munaf Patel
and Uthappa in place of Karthik
The best Indian Team would be:
Ganguly
Uthappa
Dravid
Tendulkar
Yuvraj Singh
Sehwag
Dhoni
Pathan
Agarkar
Harbhajan Singh
Zaheer Khan
It wud be great for Indain batting... wat say???

Hi, thanks for your response. But Munaf patel has proved to be a better bowler than pathan in the recent matches. So I think replacing munaf with pathan is not a goog idea. Similarly karthik is showing a lot of potential with the bat and he is a wicket keeper also. If dhoni gets injured during WC, he will be handy. The only non performing player is sehwag in the present team and that's why I have posted this question. Do you think pathan will contribute with the bat better and also nicely fulfil the fifth bowler option if he replaces sehwag in the playing 11?

i would prefer sehwag coze if he fails in one or two matches he will regain his old glory, but in case of pathan he will shine in one or two matches but all the other times he will definitely fail. We cant rely on pathan when compared to sehwag.

both Pathan and Shewag need to find their form badly and they need to do it soon.Shewag has failed miserably and his confidence would have definitely taken a beating.Irfan does perform with the bat and i am sure he can find his form.well they can be tested out in the easy matches and if they still fail they need to be put on the bench.they either have to put up or shut up.thats the name of the game because it is a country's pride which is at stake here.anyway all the best team India.

see, pathan and sehwag are both match-winners for india.but in recent times we can see both are out of touch.so hope that they get rid of their bad patches very soon.in presence of both pathan and sehwag in full form the indian side will be unbeatable.

Looking at current form of sehwag i cagree to your suggetion but how much ever combinations you try it has been apparent that Indian team is very unconsistent wrt various parameters be it batting, bowling etc etc etc even individual performances influence the team a lot to loose a match that is quite in our control. so lets hope for the best orderline and consistent performance from every player.
