TO ALL PHOTOGRAPHERS: What's the dumbest question you've ever been asked?

Hey guys when you go out with your SLR and big lens, what's the dumbest question or comment you've ever heard. For example I had my 50-300mm mounted on my Canon one day and a crowd gathered around me and finally one woman asked me: "pssst, hey paparazzi, whos teh star in town?" another time I was at a stadium to see a soccer match the the guard said: "LET HIM THROUGH, HE'S A PHOTOGRAPHER" So I hid my ticket money and walked in free, chest high.

I used to work as a pet photographer, and got all sorts of stupid questions! Can you get my dog to sit with these three props for this photo? Sure, just take your dog right over there, and have her sit. Well, she doesn't know how to sit... she's an outdoor dog. Then how am I supposed to make her sit? When I was taking photos of a Christmas setup with lights all set up and everything, one woman asked me, "Can you take pictures without a tripod? Because I don't know where my dog will end up." I told her, "Yes I can, but if your dog ends up away from the lights, you're not going to have a nice photo." Ohhh... and my favorite one. I ended up with a blurry photo of this one small dog because it was running. Well, it wasn't a good photo no matter how you looked at it. But the owners wanted it. So I told them unless they got it in wallet sized, it would be blurry. They say, "You just told the people ahead of us that your could edit out their dog's leash in PhotoShop, but you can't even fix a blurry photo?" And I mean, this photo was really blurry, you couldn't fix it for anything! I have one friend who is always asking me things too. And she was asking me the other day how to get photos off her memory cards and onto CDs. And I'm like, "Wait a minute, you've had that camera for months..." and she says, "Yeah, but I just buy a new memory card every time I want to take more photos." Doh!

Oh I know! It is too funny all the things she says, I could write a book. I should totally blow her mind and go over there and put her memory card into my laptop, and burn a CD of the photos. She thinks it is an extremely complicated process. Once I went over there to show her how to use her "new" digital camera, and she had spent so long reading the instructions before trying it out, that she had got to the how to put batteries in, and then never got to anything else for months. She swore she comprehended the book, and when I looked at the camera, it didn't make a difference that she knew the book cover to cover. Battery acid had leaked all over the camera. Ruined the finish on the one side and she never could get the thing to function. It was some really old piece of junk without a screen, but at the time she got it, it was like $200. She also buys disposable film cameras whenever they are on sale apparently. She has a bunch of them (despite having a point and shoot film camera!). I told her one day when she said she was going to use one soon, that, "you do realize that film goes bad, right? because if you're going to use an old one, you shouldn't bother wasting money getting it developed, it will all come out blue". See, I could go on and on about this one. :)

LOL... sound like she's really technologically challenged. Better not burn that photo CD for her, she may declare you a Witch, have a mobbed manhunt and burn you at the stake.....lol

I didn't have anyone asking questions. I am to busy when taking photos, I don't pay attention what is going on around.

Dumb question....??? Oh...a lot...Can you take me and my dog a photo? Can you take a photo on my brand new car?Can you tell me from what country did you get that cam? Stupid questions from stupid people. This is the world we live into.My opinion....if you don't know anything about cams or photos try to read, try to understand before you ask.

People frequently ask me how many pics I take. Last year, I happen to know it was around 7,000. When I reply with my answer, they ask, "Are you serious? You took that many pictures? Why did you take that many? What are you going to do with them all?" (as though I'm making them upload, store and print them) Sometimes I reply, "well, I'm going to wallpaper a room in my house with them" and they say...."really"? (Duhhhh....) Only a true photographer can appreciate how many pics another photographer takes. :)

That is too funny! Someone asked me before how many photos I had taken with a particular camera, and it was 11,000 something. They were shocked. Needless to say, I can't afford film! I've tried to show others before why a DSLR is still cheaper overall than a film point and shoot for me, considering that I don't have to buy film and have it developed. They thought it was like rationalizing buying an expensive purse by saying that it's only like buying a cup of coffee a day for the next 5 years if you spread it all out.

LOL... this one time I was at a car rally and had a big white lens (300mm L) on a Canon 30D, this guy next to me with his point & shoot turns to his friend and say "Gee I wonder what he's compensating for". Later I found out that his wife was the woman came up to me and said "Wow my husband would be soooo jeaslous"...lol

I've never had a really dumb question. Usually it's just "So you're a photographer?" After my affirmative reply, they inevitably ask for me to take their picture. That gets real old, real quick.

don't take it for granted, sometimes I have to give people a dollar (or more) to allow me to photograph them!
