Brilliant work has been done in Cuba by Segundo Mesa Castillo of Havana. He studied the platelets of schizophrenics and invented a biological test for schizophrenia. Normal platelets have a smooth shape and a normal arrangement of organelles. In schizophrenic platelets "vacuolation with glycogen increment is observed".
"Abnormal filopodias and platelet enlargement are also observed."
The filopodias are false "feet" of the cell. They help the cell move.
My interpretation of these results is that the platelet enlargement is probably caused by too much of some macronutrients such as amino acids entering the cells. The glycogen indicates a partial failure of glucose metabolism. This could be due to the cell burning amino acids for fuel instead of glucose. The vacuoles could be either the amino acids or fat produced from the amino acids. My theory suggests a diet very low in amino acids as a treatment.
Dr. Castillo came to different conclusions. He thought that there was a virus. I feel that his interpretation of the data is wrong.
