Have you beaten life or has life beaten you ?

I just read something about change and how our mind resists change ... for example you decide you are going to work out every day to get healthier ... or you are going to take a new course so you can get ahead in life ... well, this article said your mind will resist it and tell you why you dont want to do that because we like to be comfortable and change isnt comfortable ....
Well, I have done all of that .. i went back to university after a divorce and i was 35 .. i use to walk and run 10 kilometers a day which is about 6 miles ... i have excericised all my life up until a couple of years ago ... I have always been about improvement, change and growth ... but now ... i just want to quit ... because I'm 54 now ...I hate telling people how old i am but here it is in black and white ... and all my struggling and all my striving to achieve (and I have tried so many new things in my life it would take a book to tell it all)... has literally gotten me no where ... and thats the truth ... i mean i have experienced life ... but as far as life successes .. i have none ... I'm poor .. no man .. no money ... no house ... no anything ....but i want to give up and i dont want to try anymore ... my question is ... has life beaten you ..or have you beaten life ?
tell me how ..i need some encouragement .. or something to come back ...

hi..
when u think confidently and seriously about the goal which u have to achieve u will achieve it for sure..
I had a fight with my college principal for which i dont regret till now bcoz i knew i m correct...
but in my final exams he gave me very less marks so much less that with those market i had no value for me in the market. at first to think that i would be getting a high paid job and that too in the field in want seemed quite impossible.
But i didnt consider it totally impossible i used to just say it to myself will do it one day though late but will do it for sure
Now c me after only 1 n 1/2 yr after the college i m in one of the Mnc and earning high

I read your post and sighed to myself, because I do understand what you're talking about, here.
Of course, I don't know you, nor what motivates you... but my observation in life (which, by the way, could also be applied to myself) is that feeling unsuccessful and "beaten" is often the result of having "lost our way" somewhere, and not really having a clear sense of what success actually MEANS to us.
I had my own "mid-life epiphany" (I refuse to see it as a "crisis," that's a societal tag I will NOT take for myself), and realized that I really didn't have much idea WHO I *really* was, and WHAT I *really* wanted, not what stood between me and what I really wanted. And that realtes to all aspects of life, from work, relationships, friendships, leisure time, where we live, etc. I guess what I'm saying is that I spent a lot of time "letting life 'happen' TO me," as opposed to living with some kind of intent and direction. Sure, I worked hard, stayed fit, experienced life... but I had an underlying idea that good things would just "happen," somehow. On some level, I had "the good life," yet it was just a whole lot of "busy work" leading to nowhere.
I could write a lot more about the whole process of change, and (for me) how to be an "active agent" in my own life. And I've felt like giving up, from time to time. And (at 46) those feelings come back, now and then.
The thing about change, though... it's not enough to just "open a new door;" you have to be willing to not only abandon what was in the "old room," you must be willing to take the chance of embracing what's in the new... EVEN if it turns out to not quite be what you're looking for.

Thats interesting cause I have worked really hard towards my goals but after putting in 3-5 years for one goal and the doors consistently getting shut ... I usually gave up ... and then tried something new ... thats where I identify with your remark about "letting life happen to me " ... thats how i feel life has happened to me because whenever I have tried to take the bulls by the horns, so to speak it wouldnt let me ..... i guess i will never understand those people that believe that they have total control of their lifes and they make their life what they want ... because it doesnt work for me in any shape or form ... I have tried so often ... so I finaly gave up and let whatever happen ... happen and just rode the wave ...
But in retrospect ... i did finish university with good grades ... i did figure out what i was good at ... am i working in that field? .... no ... but the excercising did help me look better than a lot at my age ... and i have accomplished a few things in my life .. i guess when i wrote this question this morning, i was just seeing where i am now .. not where i have been ... mmmm ... well thanks for your comments they sure make me take a better look at things ... thanks again ..

I had it pretty rough most of my life, in and out of bad relationship and no one to turn to. Now here I am engaged to a great guy and the mother of a wonderful little girl. Don't worry. It will get better.

Hi, I think our mind resist change because we don't have enthusiam or real interest in the things that we wanted to change. Sometimes, we are overdoing things so our mind resist because its too tiring. I personally feel that if you walk and run 10km a day, you are actually overdoing it and tired yourselve out, worst if it cause injuries. Unless you are doing it for a living.
We need to have a balance life not overdoing certain things. Aspirin can help cure headache but it'll kill if you take 1000 at one shot.
All of us will face some up and down in our life. Try reading some inspiring books or put some inspiring qoutes around your house so to inspire you anytime when you see it. Also place some pictures that make you feel lighten. Keep you mind positive, things will go right.

I think that you get a little bit of both when it comes to life, sometimes you will be beating it pretty good, then other times life will throw you a curveball and it will be beating you, so it just depends, right now i am right in the middle, so well see what happens

im a student and there are a lot of things that i have yet to learn. in some ways i had a hard time starting something for a change because im the type of person that doesn't have the full confidence without someone backing me up. there times that i would neglect opportunity because im not sure if i could do it. thats my problem. but as growing, i have to deal things that comes in my way. whatever it'll be. before i used to think and ask myself that what would happen to me if i give up my studies? -- nothing. so whatever trials there is, i would really think positive that this is just trials and God never gave trials to His children that is impossible to solve.

I have beaten the crap out of it and trust me it was beat or be beaten.I have survived three chronic illnesses and two relationships from hell, to find the love of my life and to learn how to survive being in my own body, perserverance is a good thing.Like they say in "Aladdin", 'it's amaing what you can live through.'

Well I must say that life has beaten me fo show. I just want a break from my everyday life. Every day for me is the same, I'm sick of it. I'm always put down by most people, including my family. I have low self-esteem fo show, and I'm weird to people because I act like my self and how I really am. Their isn't one day that has passed by me that I really enjoy. Their always has to be something that screws it up. I have been beaten some bad.

I'm so sorry .... Have you read all the responses from the others on here? They really helped me see a few things ... take a good look ... is there any you can identify with? Well you must be doing something right ... you here ... you talking ..... you have 717 points ... how can i help? ...
Find something good and think about that ...ok? just one thing ... everything starts in our minds ... the way i was thinking this morning has changed ... its all still here like it was this morning but i'm thinking about it differently tonight so it doesnt feel so bad .... know what i mean? look at some of these comments on here and the struggles others have gone thru ... but look how they are thinking about it ... it makes it not so big a struggle or it allows the person to move past it and above it ... Do you know Tyler Perry ? the Play director and actor or the plays Madea's Family Reunion or Madea goes to Jail .. or Daddy's Little Girl .... well, he was beaten down for years ...living on the streets ... til he got an idea to do something ... we can all rise out of the ashes ... if i can ... you can ... but you got to think you can ... and i do too ... my family was like your family ... i felt like you felt ... you came and responded to me and helped me see .... now let these responses help you see you are worthy and worth respect and success and happiness .... peace ... thanks again ..

I try not to look at it as me and life beating up on each other in an ultimate smackdown. I prefer to strive for mutual surrender where I'm in harmony with the universe, and appreciate what I have instead of seeking out something else. I don't always achieve that balance, it's a day to day thing, but I try to be mindful of my goal at all times.

I am still trying to beat life..I am 33 and I married at a young age and I missed out on so much because I got married early...I want something to happen to my life..Change is good if it is for the better no matter how old you are..I have dreams and age won't hinder me from reaching it..I have worked from job to job and now I finally hit it big...and I even got sidelines. I got to buy this computer, a ref and I also have started a savings in the bank.. We used to have nothing but now things changed....I dream of a car and a house...and I will try to get that car this year...I try to think positive on things so I can get what I want...Having a positive attitude helps...and faith as well.

I am a middle-aged man and have a lot of changes in my jobs and have taken many school courses. Just like your feeling,I have somehow felt failure which I cant specify.I mean I have a stable job, family,no difficulties of life, but I steal have a feeling of failure.I think this is because that successes lie in compare with others.to compare with more successful people, one whould feel failure.so,just go on with your interested way of life and dont think too much of it.sure ,this way we will feel better.

I'd say money wise, life has beaten me. Love and relationships, I have beaten life back. Career and employment, I am beating life back and will keep doing so. Now I have a small business and I'm free of all that backstabbing at work. But since the business is only 8 months old, I am still working on paying the loan and that's when life has beaten me. Things got better this year but it won't be until next year when I beat life back in that regard. You can always beat life back, it won't be fast lightning, but you will and when you do, beat it hard!

Well I'd sadly say life has beaten me pretty much. NOT all the time. Just latelly. Ever since I quit my job at legoland, a week before I would have been let go. I cant find work, its crappy. Our family fights more than ever. We have had our ups and downs.
Here I am mid way through February and out of work for almost 2 months. Unable to pay bills. Before this there was college, and the fact I didnt take an internship so I couldnt get a real job. Yeah life has beat me.
But I wont let it keep me down. I will keep getting up again, trust that God will get me through it. And winning. Even if it takes a while to do so.

Thank you for expressing my sentiments about life. I am luckier than you are in that I have been married for 30 years. I don't know how to encourage you except to tell you except the line I like from "The Shawshank Redemption": You've got to get busy living or get busy dying. I know you've tried forever like I have, and I know how discouraging it is to feel that your best has never gotten you anywhere, but since we've both got many years yet to live, we just can't let ourselves give up. Life has been beating us down all along, and it has taken real strength to have reached this point. We just have to keep reaching down inside and finding more of that same strength. You never know what good things could still happen. We just have to hope that since they haven't happened yet, they're still out there in our futures.

Well I guess it all depends whos eyes you look at it from. To me I know I did alot of stupid things that I will forever be paying for but I also manage to change and accomplish half of what I wanted in life so far so I figure Im doing ok. Other people would look at me and only noticed the bad I have done and just figure life has beatn me. It has beatin me yet but life sure has kicked the snot out of me though in the past!lol All I could from here on in is just keep using my head and think before I do stupid things and think of the repercussions that will follow them but in the short NO LIFE HAS NOT AND WILL NOT BEAT THIS GUY!

Wow braided, no life successes? Going back to college after a divorce and at 35 years old? That right there is a success to a lot of people! Walk or run 6 miles a day? Just for the exercise? LOL Last time I looked around there wasn't too much of that going on either. Being financially poor is not the worse thing in the world. I think maybe you should take all these life experiences and start writing that book, your stories may be uplifting to others, and to yourself also.

Thats funny you say that because when I was first writing this question .... and I said that about the book .. i realized my friends have been telling me for a few years now to write a book ... my one friend always use to tell me i was like a phoenix rising out of the ashes ... everytime i was down and out i would come back with more energy and she just couldnt believe how i kept getting up and trying again ... yea well i didnt see any of that ... til you just reminded me of it ... thank you so much .. for your encouragement and kind words ... thanks for helping lift me back up ... and give me a new plan or goal to work toward ... thanks so much
