After reading all my life, I've never found books as skillfully crafted as the Harry Potter series. I started reading them so that I could understand what all the ruckus was about -- and from then on I was hooked. JK Rowling has single-handedly gotten whole generations of people to start reading. I'm a teacher, and I see kids carrying around these books every day even though they are big and cumbersome.
It always amazes me when I read that people think the books should be banned because they promote witchcraft. Wouldn't it be better to teach the children to know the difference between fact and fiction?

Same here and actually, when J.K. Rowling started writing it she had adults on the mind, it really isn't soppose to be a childrens book and that is probably why the books are getting bigger and darker. I can't imagine very many children reading from the Goblet of fire and up, chances are they wait for the movie...which is getting darker and darker every time...

I haven't even seen Goblet of Fire movie yet. For me it is more about the books. My 4 year old son is somewhat aware and if he sees me rereading a HP book (a frequent habit), he'll ask me to read some aloud to him. I have started telling him if it's a "scary" part and read to him later instead.

i absolutely love the first few books, but for some reason i didn't like the half-blood prince at all. i'm still waiting for the last one, though, because i've read them this far and i need to know how it ends.

I'm 31 and I LOVE the Harry Potter books and movies.I was very surprised how well written they are for mere children's books.I have taken my kids to see all of the movies, and have read all the books so far..I cried when I learned what happened in the latest book..I don't want to say for those who haven't read it yet. It's good to know that there are adults out there who love Harry Potter like I do.

I'm with you! It's been a long time since a book series has caught my attention like Harry Potter. I loved the Naria books when I was a kid and I did a Tolkien run in my teens but these days it's HP. I'm about to have my first baby and we've already started collecting the series in hardcover for her.

I was actually pregnant with my son when my husband brought home the first Harry Potter book, with the intention of having me read it to the baby in utero. I started off that way but then I got so into the book that I had to start reading silently because I could go so much faster that way! My son is four and he is very interested in Harry also, but I have to leave out the scariest parts of the books when I read to him.

I'm a very grown man (!) but I love the Harry Potter books. It seems to me that they have the ingredient that, for me, always is the hallmark of a great children's book - the ability to be read on a number of levels and to appeal to adults as much as children. The Lewis Carrol books and Pooh and a number of others have this quality. People who turn up their noses at adults reading children's fiction really are demonstrating that they have lost the real joy of living. I just feel sorry for them!

Yes! I think I must have been about 21 when the first Harry Potter came out. I loved it. Now I'm 26 and I can't wait for the next book which is supposed to be out next June!

I LOVE Harry Potter and I'm a grown woman, too! Those books are so well written and they are so much fun. They have everything that books for adults have. I just don't see them as being children's books. I'm going to be so sad when the series is over.

I absolutely love Harry Potter! I have all the books and all the movies. I can't wait for the new movie and ESPECIALLY for the new book. But I'm kind of sad to see it end.

I have read all the HP books and seen all the movies. I'm now awaiting the final book (when?) and the new movie (July 2007).
