As most of you know Oprah Winfrey recently started a school in South Africa. I am not sure if she will ever read this but I am from South Africa. I have been more privileged than most kids in SA because I had two working parents that where both well off. I want to say that not all of South Africa is like that but there are many poor areas in SA. I am so glad for what she is doing for these girls and I hope this helps to improve SA in the future. GOD Bless Oprah.

I thought that Oprah did a wonderful thing by opening up the school for those kids in Africa. I couldn't believe it when I saw the media trying to stir up trouble by suggesting that she should've opened up the school in the United States (I completely disagreed with that). I really admired Oprah's response to this, however. She stated how you can ask any kid in the United States what they want and they will reply with something like: " a new cellphone". You ask a kid in Africa the same thing and their response is: "an education"...it really opens up your eyes to things.

You are right...kids in the US really got it easy compare to other kids in other countries. I think that we should all educate our children when it comes to this issue....Karen

I think Oprah identified that there is a lot of potential in South Africa, and hopefully once social order is restored and crime is brought under control through a combination of social programs, poverty reduction initiatives, and less corruption, all the children of South Africa will have the same opportunity without having to be in a boarding school behind a 10ft security fence.

I watched the entire episode on the school last week. I wept a few times because those young girls were sooo very bright and deserved to go to a promising school that could take them above abnd beyond their current situations. While watching the show I wondered what it was like in South Africa because all I saw was poverty but I have known one other person from there and they were not poor so I wonder how those lines of poverty and not are drawn in South Africa? I love Oprah.

It is good hear that you had a good life in South Africa. You really don't get to hear that to often. I was so happy to see those girls getting something that they so deeply deserve. I wish them much success. Do you if there are any schools being created for the boys of South Africa?
