I am interested in polling (informally)myLot users to see where each person got their dog. Did it follow you home? Pet store (I hope not!)? breeder? shelter? rescue organization?
My husky/carolina dog mix is from animal control. At the animal control in our county they only keep dogs for 5-7 days.

Our 2 year old Stormy was found in a fast food parking lot at about 2 months old and our 1 year old Tank was found in the brush a little up the road from our house. My Aunt and Uncle brought us Stormy they actually found her but could not keep her because of their 2 german shepards...stormy only grew to be about 35lbs. My husband brought Tank home he saw her and thought that some how Stormy had gotten out (they are both solid black). we were not going to keep her at first but when we asked around and could not find her owner she became ours.
We have never and probably will never pay for a dog...there are plenty to be rescued (no flames please I don't think that there is anything wrong with buying a dog) :-)

I have a four year old Cocker Spaniel. We rescued her from an outdoor only home about two months ago. When we got her, she'd never been to the groomer and her fur was so dirty and matted that I could get her clean, so off to the groomer we went. She's such a sweet girl!

We got our beagle from a guy that raises beagles in MS for 75 bucks, after our dalmation was stolen. It's cheaper to buy a dog from a breeder or get one for free instead of going to the pound. They charge as much as a breeder.

Although beagles are a relatively cheap breed to buy generally, I would like to point out that in a lot of cases rescue dogs are not as much. My dog was microchipped, nuetered, rabies shot given and adopted all for only $65. This is due in part to Animal Control's relationship with the HUmane Alliance spay/nueter program in our area, but still. A pretty good deal!

Good for you for going with a reputable breeder rather than a "backyard" breeder!

I have a 14 year old poodle, I purchased her from my neighbor at the time. I also have a miniature weinie dog, I rescued her from a puppy mill. she was soooo pitiful when I found her. She's wonderfully healthy now and 2 years old. My newest is a 2 year old chiahuahua( i think I mispelled that), I inherited her from my little grandma after she passed away last year. She is wonderful. And much to my dismay.... my stepbrother moved off and left his husky behind....so now guess who he belongs too? I just could not let him starve!
