I have found that over age 40 my skin (on my face) is getting dry. I have never had dry skin. Many moisturizers leave my skin itchy, too. Soemtimes I see women my age with LUMINOUS skin. What are they using to give their skin such a healthy look? Do you have a skincare regimen? I used Mary Kay for a while, but it's expensive and I didn't see much of a change. What do you wash your face with and what mositurizer do you use? Do people compliment you on your skin?

On a daily basis I wash my face with a glycerin based soap like Pears or Nutregena. That I find works wonders. A couple of times a week I'll use an Apricot Face Scrub by St. Ives or the Wal-mart Generic. Make sure you do your neck and hands with this, it really makes a difference. For a moisterizer believe it or not the best one I found is the anti-aging one by Personal Care that they sell at the dollar store. I know strange huh? It's an alpha-hydroxy one and it works beautifully.
Now as needed or once a month I'll do a full facial which means I start out with a mudd or clay mask that includes my face and neck. Let that sit till it dries then I rinse it off. I think use a peel off mask on my face only (it doesn't like to dry on the neck). I peel that off and then I'll wash with the Apricot Scrub to get any residue I missed. I dry and then put on the moisturizer. Don't forget to get neck and hands because those can really show the age of a woman. I've seen so many women out there were the face looks young but the neck and hands look like they should be on a 60 year old woman.
I'm 38 and I'm still taken for right around 20 so I think I'm doing something right :)

Wow! I haven't done a facial in a long time, that's a good idea! And my sister also swears by that St. Ives Apricot scrub.

I do have a skincare regimen, but it's mainly just washing my face at night with Cetaphil. I have sensitive skin so I don't use just any product on my skin, I've also tried using Olay Total Effects and I also got that itchy feeling, so I stopped using it.

Yes, I used to use Cetaphil but even that made my skin itchy. I don't get it-- that product is recommended by dermatoligists for sensitive skin.

I never had a proper skin care regime till a few months ago. I no doubt washed my face and used a moisturizer but no matter what kind of oil-free moisturizer I used , the oil just came back! I knew the basics of skin care CTM..i.e. Cleanse, Tone,Moisturize. I was an Avon representative so had been taught these basics (never followed them though..lol)I've always had problesm with blakheads due to my oily skin, so finally I decided to try out CTM. I bought Neutrogena's products. Cleanser (foaming face wash),a oil-free pore cleansing astringent and two moisturizers, one for day and for night use. I started this regime in the beginning of October last year and the results have been unbelievable. My skin has never felt so smooth or looked so blemish free ever! This is my regime and I follow it very religiously. People never told me anything about my skin before but now everybody I know has noticed the difference.
There was a lady on Oprah recently and she had excellent skin, not just the face but all over. And she was 70 years old but she looked like a 30 year old, it was simply amazing. And she had only this to say when asked what her secret was "Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize" :)

I'll admit, I tried Mary Kay and I'm only 23 but it was good stuff but pretty pricey. I didn't buy since it was a sample. But I'd buy it if it were less expensive.
I recommend the Pond's face cream. It comes in a tiny tub, but it leaves my face silky smooth and I don't break out which is a rarity for me. Try that one!
And those ladies with luminous skin probably get special treatment like getting facials and such.

I wash my face with a gel in the shower then cleanse tone and moisturise, if your skin is dry make sure you use a mild products, for sensitive skin.
Once every week or so use a gentle facial scrub which will exfoliate any dry patches nad make sure you tone and moisturise after. A good chemist like boots will advise you which products are best suited for your skin, I did a beauty course a few years ago but find that the ladies in boots chemist know their product range better than I do.
My step mum has mature skin and uses oil of olay several things in a cream and her skin is lovely,

After 40 age only moisturizer cannot cure dry skin condition, it happen on face due to indigestion and less sleep. You should eat some raw vegetables and roots like carron, tomato, green pappya (pappya is very good for your skin and health as it keeps people young)and other root vegetables available in your country need to be eat with food as salad to keep your skin live. You may eat some olive oil.

LOL, I use store brand moisturizers and well as skin creams and I have noticed it seems to work better than the brand names I have used in the past. I am only 36, but I know the difference between my skin condition when not using anything and when I do. It's a big difference.

A homemade facial mask for oily skin can help clean your pores, cut down on break outs, and make your complexion look less shiny and oily.
Here are some tips to keep in mind before you use a homemade facial for your oily skin.
1. It’s best to use a homemade facial mask soon after you make it. However, if you have extra, you can keep most of these masks in the refrigerator for up to a week.
2. You shouldn’t leave a mask on any longer than instructed.
3. Those with oily skin should use a mask at least twice a month.
4. While you’re waiting to remove your facial mask, take the time to relax. Lie down and close your eyes. Read a chapter of that book you’ve been meaning to get to. Whatever you find restful.
5. Those with oily skin should wash their faces two or three times a day with oil-free cleanser.
6. A good toner for oily skin is fresh lemon juice. Use a cotton ball to apply the juice to your entire face.
7. If you have oily skin, you should use an oil-free moisturizer.
Cucumber and Yogurt Facial Mask for Oily skin
Not only is cucumber soothing to your skin, it is purported to reduce wrinkles.
Clean and peel one cucumber. Put half of it in a food processor or blender. Add about 1 tablespoon of plain yogurt. Blend the mixture until smooth.
Apply the cucumber yogurt mask to your entire face, avoiding the eye area. Leave on for ten to fifteen minutes, then remove mask with lukewarm water.
Strawberry and Yogurt Facial Mask for Oily Skin
The yogurt will naturally exfoliate your oily skin.
Place four ripe, clean strawberries in a bowl. Use a fork to smash the strawberries. Add a teaspoon of plain yogurt and stir until the mixture is smooth. Apply the mixture to your face, and leave on for ten to fifteen minutes. Remove mask with lukewarm water.
Lemon and Oatmeal Facial Mask for Oily Skin
Lemon will help tighten and tone your oily skin.
In a blender or food processor, blend one cup of oatmeal, one teaspoon lemon juice, and one tablespoon plain yogurt. Apply the mixture to your face, leaving on for ten to fifteen. Then rinse off with warm water.
Apple and Honey Facial Mask for Oily Skin
Honey is a natural astringent that will also help to tighten your oily skin.
Add one apple (peeled, seeded, and cut into slices) into a blender or food processor. Add three tablespoons of honey. Blend the mixture well. Apply to face and leave on for ten to fifteen minutes. Then, rinse with warm water.
To Deal With Blackheads
Blackheads are common in those with oily skin. To help deal with them, mix two or three tablespoons of baking soda with an equal amount of water in a bowl. Apply the mixture to your face, and gently massage it into your skin for about three minutes. Then, rinse face with warm water.

I don't have what I'd call a real regimen, but I do try and clean my face well -- usually in the shower I use a facial scrub, I also use a cleansing pad once a day to make sure I get all the dirt/grime off and out of the pores.
I put moisturizer on at night and in the morning (after washing my face). I started using that Oil of Olay Regenerist after the lab reports about that one being the best/as good as the real expensive lotions/creams.
I wish for the luminous skin too -- I don't use makeup anymore and try to keep my skin hydrated with good lotion. Next time you see some great skin ask that person what she uses and get back to me! I want to know too!

Regarding skincare, I was born with a very sensitive skin and had to choose products carefully. For now, I'm using the burt's bees skincare line that suited and works perfectly on my face. I also take supplements everyday which is a big plus if we like to at least look a few years younger.

The very best thing you can do is find a sunscreen with at least spf 15 and use it every day, rain or shine! Neutrogena makes great sunscreens!! I also love the Olay regenerist line. Over 40 you need to be sure to exfoliate on a regular basis. This can be with a gentle scrub or an alpha-hydroxy product (similar result, but not as rough on the skin). I often get complimented on my skin, I'm over 40 but got too much sun in my teens and 20's. Now I use sunscreen religiously, and I'm using some vitamin C treatments from Murad to treat my sun damage and age spots. Expensive, but I'm in the business so I get a discount.
Also, my skin has been much improved since I started using mineral make up. I used to use BE, but I've found much better and more affordable makeup at Meow Cosmetics! www.meowcosmetics.com They have many more shades, and samples are only $1. Check it out!
