At the moment I'm using Active Virus Shield, a free version by AOL of the infamous Kaspersky, one of the best in the world. I changed to it after using Avast, which had a bad graphical interface. The new one is really better for me.
This is on my home pc, while in my office a Symantec antivirus (no Norton) is installed.
What about your antivirus?

Good for you! Well, I am currently using avira antivir personal classic edition. I have been using this software for almost two years. Since using it, I have never encountered any problems at all with regards to the overall function and system performance of my machine. Otherwise, I am so impressed and grateful with its performance. It updates on a regular basis and this can be scheduled at your most convenient or spare time. It is very light on resources and does not use a lot of memory. Hence, does not slow down your computer.
Hope this would help.
Have a nice day and God speed!

i had problems with norton-even with adjusting the settings,it would constantly interrupt programs.
but the free prog works well :)
i used mcafee in the past, but it seemed like it wasn't catching things.

I use PCSafteyPlus - it's live protection and has worked great for me. There is a monthly fee (or you can do the yearly fee).
I've tried Norton, AVG and spy sweeper. All let in virus and other bad things!

Before when we only had one computer, we used Norton Anti-Virus, but after a year when it expired, we started using AVG which you can download for free from the internet. And that same time, we opened up an internet cafe, so we are using AVG with all our computers. Before we were just using the Free Edition, but now, we are using the "Paid Edition".. =)

I have Avast Antivirus 4.7 Home Edition. It was free and I am totally happy with it. Ran it this morning and found a Win32 that needed removed. It did so and I have computing freely off and on all day.
Free is my favorite and it was and has performed admirably. Not sure what your problem was, since looks makes no difference as long as it protects the computer.

I am currently running AVG 7.5 as my antivirus. I used to have Mcafee, which worked quite well, as I only really want something simple, but it never seemed to detect anything. I've recently done a complete overhaul on my computer, to get rid of all the trojans and things I'd picked up, and decided to carry on using AVG after I downloaded it for this.

I had Norton for a little while on my PC then I installed AVG free which I have had forever now and it has been virus-free as far as I know, although I use a separate program for spyware. On my sister's PC which I also "administer" there was Norton and an older version of AVG (which I didn't realise til recently needed upgrading) and that PC had several invasions. I finally updated AVGfree on it so it can download the new definitions and this morning in the wee hours I discovered that while it was doing the regularly scheduled scan, AVG found 84 "bad boys" aka trojans etc. These are now in the virus vault so I'm feeling very confident about the anti-virus status of that PC! I was worried about it when (the expired Demo of) Norton kept warning of all these backdoor viruses but couldn't quarantine or delete them. I believe in using freeware whenever I can so I am glad that AVG is doing the job for me.
