Pain vs no pain

So on last nights show House was ready to maybe kill a girl so that he could get a nerve from her spine and copy it for himself.
While watching my husband said somthing about how 'cool' it would be to not feel any pain. As someone who is in pain (about a 4 on a 1-10 scale) daily I don't know if I would rather keep my pain or not be able to feel any pain.
So what do you think....Pain free life vs the life you have or even a life of constant pain???

I don't think I'd ever choose the totally pain free option, as you could see last night that poor girl had to do so many things each day just to make sure she hadn't hurt herself and not known it (nevermind the fact that she had a giant worm inside her and didn't even know it!) I think I'd rather live in constant pain than no pain at all personally, at least you know you're alive when you're feeling pain!

This is a really good question because both of these are dangerous. On one hand, it would be nice to never feel pain, but then you would never know when things are going wrong with your body. Living in constant pain would allow you to know when you've hurt other things, but the pain could cover other warning pain or even lead to addiction like it has with Dr. House. As much as I would love to plead the 5th on thsi one, I guess I would choose the pain option in hopes that I could use something to make the worst of it better. Either way though I think would be terrible, and who knows, after I think about this more...I might want to choose the other option. Like I said before, this has really got me thinking.

If I didn't have pain, that I wouldn't have any symptoms to let me know what was wrong with me. Things wouldn't get noticed unless I went to the MDs all the time, and that would be annoying. What if I had cancer, and couldn't feel the pain to describe it to my MD? Then, I end up with it and then, depending on when it gets caught, I'd probably die with it. No, I definitely prefer the pain option - it makes you feel more alive, don't ya think?

This is really a difficult choice. I too am in near constant pain (anywhere from 4-7 on the pain scale), however the side effects and fear of injury that comes with being devoid of all pain is horrible. I would have to say I would rather deal with my pain then be totally painfree... however there are times when I wouldn't mind a lack of pain. :/
