Do you prefer mail order or go to the video store or pay per view?

We have been going to the video store for like forever. My kids are married, and my daughter likes to use blockbuster mail order dvd service, some like the pay per view like on direct tv. We are apprehensive about signing up for anything. We have tried the pay per view a couple of times, once the weather was bad and we didn't get to finish the movie, it kept blacking out, another time, by the time we could get it programmed in the movie had already started. I was just wondering what the general preference was about this.

For me and my family, I choose to use Netflix. I pay a little under $20.00 a month to pick three movies at a time. It usually averages out to about twelve movies a month.
I choose to use the mail order platform for getting movies because 9 times out of 10, the video store doesn't have what I went to rent in the first place. I don't like pay per view because it is more expensive and they often experience technical difficulties.
Blockbuster Online may be a better choice as they allow you to even exchange your mail order movies at the store. However for me, where I live, our Blockbuster doesn't not participate in that program. So, if anyone is thinking of signing up for Blockbuster for that reason, make sure that your local Blockbuster does participate in the exchange.

Thank you for the information. I will check it out with our local blockbuster, it is a very small one so I doubt they participate. What about a problem DVD? Do you ever have one that is scratched or damaged? Do they ever accuse you of damaging one? Our local video store has a movie guard thing for an extra .25 per dvd.

You are very welcome! No that never happens. As a matter of fact, one time I didn't receive the movie that they sent and there is a place on their website that you can report things like that. You can report damaged DVD, damaged or lost envelope, didn't receive the DVD and a couple of other things that I don't recall right now. I have never had a problem though with the DVD not working or being damaged. I have it to be worth what I spend since PPV movies are $3.99 each.

Thank you again. That is great information to know. I'm going to discuss it with my husband. It sounds like a better deal money wise also. Rentals in the store and on PPV are exspensive.

We used to go to the rental place but then we started getting in trouble with late fees.
We either wait until it is on one of the pay cable channels like HBO or if we want to see it bad enough we will PPV it.

We've tried the pay per view, but it seems that everytime we attempt this, the weather will interfere with our satellite and we won't get to watch the enitire movie without being interrupted. But then when we rent movies, we have a deadline to return them. So we try to watch them all as fast as we can, plus the new ones are hardly ever in when we get there. We are spur of the moment type renters. With my husband's work shifts, we cant usually plan a lot. But lately, he's been asking questions about the blockbuster and netflix rentals. I've heard a lot of good things about them. Thank you for responding.

I don't care for pay tv, because of what you mentioned, and the time has to be set to see it. I don't do the mail order, as I have heard that sometimes you wait forever for what you want, as there is no time set to return them. So, I am happy with going to the store and just renting it when I am in the mood for a dvd show.

We currently still go the the video store for a movie. But we have that same problem there, we can go for weeks at a time and all the good/new movies will be out. At our store you can keep them for 5 days each when you rent them. So it takes awhile to see the new ones. Sometimes I just end up buying the movie, if it is one that the kids will watch more than once.

I live a half block from blockbuster so that is quite conventient. However, a local place really outdoes blockbuster in terms of price! Between the two of them, I don't feel the need to do the mail order route. We did do a free trial of Netflix and it was wonderful, but I don't need the expense since our local place is cheaper.

You are very fortunate that you have a rental place that is close by and is also cheaper in price. That's great. Ours is not cheap, at all. They try to tell you they are running a special, you know rent so many for such and such a price, but when it all adds up, you are still paying a lot. At least you know Netflix is an option. I appreciate your response, that's more than once I've heard about Netflix being a good source of rentals.

I rent as well as buy some of them too. I agree with the pay per view, I've tried it, but it's too exspensive. And if the weather is bad, since we have sattelite, the movie is not going to show anyway. At least if we had an actual disc, we could watch it whenever we want, or if someone calls or comes over. Or if the weather is bad. Thanks for responding.

Ordering movies is very conveniant because you don't have to leave the house for them and you don't have to worry about the availability of them either. I haven't had any problems, but I order through digital cable and that's better than satellite. I still make the occasional trip to the movie store though. But I hardly ever do any mail order things. I'm too impatient for those kind of things.

We don't have any type of cable out where I live... the boondocks, ha ha. So it is either sattelite or video store or mail order. I really don't like sattelite b/c of weather interferance and it is so exspensive. Thank you for responding.
