Why are so many people against hunting?

today all you hear about is how people are so cruel to animals and see all these adds for P.E.T.A about better animal treatment. Well for all you that don't know about hunting, there is such a thing as a huntable surplus. (an extra amount of animals that can be killed bcuz they will die anyway due to lack of food in the winter, cold, etc.)And you may say, "well its cruel", but in most cases the animal is dead before it hits the ground. Try comparing that to freezing to death in the winter.

Human society has advanced because of the human ability to grow crops and domesticate livestock - in short making hunting somewhat obsolete, by more than several thousand years. If most people had to hunt for their food, they wouldn't be spending their time in other productive ways, such as developing technology, or creating social institutions like schools, governments, religions, medicine, etc. After the advent of agriculture, hunting really only became a means of survival for the poorest (who didn't even have land they could farm) or as a sport for the richest (who could maintain land in a 'wild' state so they could hunt on it, and kept other people off that land). Eating fruits and vegetables might get old after a while - but do you think that most of your meats that you eat everyday are 'hunted' - beef, pork, chicken, turkey -- all are from domesticaed animals, not hunted animals. most of the exotic meats these days are from domesticated stock - buffalo, ostrich, alligator. no hunting needed there.
if hunting was the needed balancer of the ecosystem, then all those ecosystems that didn't have hunters would be out of whack, right? except that in areas with no humans, the ecosystem manages itself. the only time that hunting is necessary to balance the ecosystem is when human activity has thrown it out of balance. ie, humans come in and don't like wolves eating their sheep, so they kill the wolves... then the ecosystem is out of whack and the deer population grows without the predators, and so now humans have to hunt deer instead of letting wolves hunt deer.
i don't like PETA, but i see hunting as a sport as rather outmoded. if you need it to survive, that's fine. but if you are just going out to shoot some stuff, go play paintball. i wouldn't call hunting a sport anyway, since in a sport, all the players know they are playing a game - in hunting, your prey don't know that's its just a game to you, they are just trying to survive.

Its mostly because the liberals are taking this country over. People don't understand that hunting keeps the animals from starving and causing fatal traffic accidents on the roads. Since when is a human life less important than a deer's life?

If we simply kill them for fun is not good.Forest and animals are our precious wealth. If we destroy them, means we are doing cruelty with the new generation. It is our duty to preserve them for the new generation.

How but killing for the fact that some animals are over populating in human living areas (ie towns)
Our bear population has grown to such an extent thanks to tree huggers who thought they should elimate the spring bear hunt.
They wander through town and are a hazard to everyone especially the young children who just want to go play. WE shold load them up and ship to the major cities and see how they cope with the problems we have to face
The only time we get a break is winter when they sleep.
Even had a bear and her cub break our fence in half I live in the middle of a small town Our fence is 6 feet high They broke it like nothing Scary Godd thing my dog was inside Not funny in the least little

Most of the time hunting is a sport and limited to some specific hunting grounds. They don't just go out there in the wild or on the street shooting animals or pets.
I don't think hunting is animal cruelty since you don't torture animals, leave them in sickness or poor unhealthy condition, and no abuse or maltreatment is involved. It's even better if you don't hunt of course, but if you do, I hope the animals don't have to suffer as much as they do in the case of animal cruelty.

There is nothing wrong with hunting in my opinion. It's no different than fishing. The animals feed us. If you're hunting just to kill them and you don't have any intention of eating them then it's wrong otherwise there should be no problem with it.
