I dearly love to cook and bake. I love to give gifts that I prepare myself. Gifts in a jar, gifts in a can and homemade mixes are great. I personally use them on a regular basis and encourage others to use them also. I cannot use MSG and it is in most commercial foods these days. I have contacted companies and they dont seem to care. Alot of people cannot use MSG and still alot more have no idea what it does to them. They get an immediate headache after eating and dont know why. This recipe for cream soup is so much cheaper than commercial cream soups. This really is a great recipe! The key to using this homemade cream of soup is to have it on hand. If it is easily accessable, you will be more apt to use it. Once you begin to make your own mixes, you are well on your way to healthier cooking and eating. This is a recipe that I added to my Christmas basket gifts this year. It is such a practical recipe that most can use and has NO MSG or other preservatives that you cant even pronounce! Have you ever checked the sodium in canned soups? Wow it is so high in sodium. This homemade recipe can be used in casseroles or crockpot recipes. Great to keep on hand and to give as gifts or use yourself. Enjoy! Condensed Cream Soup Mix Recipe 2 cups nonfat dry milk powder 3/4 cup cornstarch 2 tablespoons dried onion flakes 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper 1/4 cup chicken bouillon powder 1 teaspoon dried basil (optional) 1/4 teaspoon dried thyme Using an air tight container combine dry milk, cornstarch, onion flakes, pepper and chicken bouillon. If desired also add basil and thyme. Mix well. When using the mix combine 1/3 cup of the mix with 1 1/4 cups of water in saucepan. Cook and stir until thickened. You can add mushrooms or chicken to make cream of mushroom soup and cream of chicken soup

Hi! Thanks again for another wonderful recipe! I don't know if it's just me, but it seems like canned soups are really losing their flavor, or they are overflavored with ingredients like garlic and onion to the point that the soup isn't very enjoyable. I'm looking forward to trying this! :-) PS I made a version of Rachael Ray's meatball soup a few nights ago - we loved it. I'm starting to become a big believer in homemade soup! :-)

Good for you. I love homemade anything. As you can tell from my discussion, I try to convince everyone to go the homemade route. :)

Ok, I have to admit I am lazy and can't see myself doing all of this for something I can get out of a can. I am sure this would be better than the canned stuff but the only time I used cream soup of any kind is to add it to other stuff. I am going to save this though to share with friends that are not as lazy as me :)

My printer is running hot and heavy on this one! It sounds so good. I make killer soups, but this is something that I think I would like to try with broccoli soup (of course we can't forget to add lots of cheese) ~Donna

I have been looking for this recipie. I cant find any mixes out there thst are just cream soup base. There are so many uses for this. I mix cream soup with beef gravy to make swedish meatball sauce. It is a great family pleaser but to make it from cream is time consuming. Thank you for saving me time and money!

I prefer use full cream milk as its taste is more creamy. Maybe you are in diet to reduce fat intake?

You need to use the powder milk so it can be stored as a mix. If you are making it fresh, you can use other forms of milk.

Thanks for the recipe! I have cans of cream soup in my cupboards, but this would be easier to store than the cans. Often times I run out of the canned ones.
