Meet Max. Max is a 1 year old german shepherd cross that I adopted from animal services today. He'd been living in a 4x4 cage since December, and would have been euthanized at the end of the month if he hadn't have found a home.
For $150, I bought Max, which covered his deworming, 2 vaccinations, his lisence for a year and microchipping. He was also entered into a draw for a free neutering, and if we don't win that and I have to pay to get him neutered, I get a $50 rebate back from animal services after I show proof that he's been fixed.
$150 bucks, for a sweet tempered, quick learning dog and well over $150 worth of veterinary care ... nevermind the microchipping.
Max has been with me for not even a full day yet and has quickly integrated himself as part of the family. He fits right in, and loves his new home.
How did you get your dog? Did you pay a breeder, find one in the classifieds, have a friend who had free pups to find homes for, humane society ... how did the furrier end of your family come to be part of your family?

He's working out great so far ... and he's awesome at guilt trips with those damn puppy dog eyes, lol.
Taking in strays is about as charitable as you can get ... they needed homes and you provided one, good for you. :) And they definately do tend to choose their owners, don't they? Even in my house, our pets have 'chosen' one particular person that they're close to .. that's their owner. Max seems to have chosen me, since he's usually glued to my leg, lol.

I personally bought my dog, Molly. She was originally going to be a show dog, but problems with her skin no longer allowed her to be eligible for this.

What a good looking dog you adopted. Bless you for doing this. Almost all of my animals are rescue which include cats, dogs, snakes, and turtle. It is sad how many people throw their pets away when the novelty has worn off. The exception to my rescue rule in my house is my Great Dane puupy but we got her from a very responsible breeder and are training to become a therapy dog.
