When do you throw your old clothes away?

I have this pair of pants that I like to wear a lot. My family tells me that it's worn-out and that I should throw it away. But I love them. I've had them for 6 years, and I think they're still in "wearable" condition lol. Even though they have a hole in them, but it's barely noticeable.
I feel like I'll be throwing out something of value if I get rid of them. They're extremely comfortable, and I think we've gotten used to one another lol. I mean no matter how much weight I gain or lose, they always fit.
So my question is, how long do you wait before you throw out your old clothes? Or do you keep them for years until they can't be worn any longer?

I try to update my closet as much as often as I can. I used to do this for everyone in my family (except my mom, because all of her things are wearable and organized). Now, I do that for my hubby. If I have an item of clothing that I really love, I save it in my keepsake box. I have a shirt or two that I have had for so many years, and they were just not in wearable condition anymore, so I had to put them in the box, because they were very important to me. Other than that, I do not like waste, of space and of the fact that they are not going to be used by us, when there are others that can. So, in general, if it is very nice, in good condition, fits well, and not really out of style, I keep it.

I am terrible about that myself. I have clothes from ten years ago. I start to throw them away and then just cant. Because I think "well its comfortable" or "I could wear that when I give the dogs a bath instead of ruining my good clothes" or any other semi plausible excuse I can come up with. I think that my husband and sister (when she is snooping in my closet for something to borrow if she is over) make things disappear from time to time though.

I have a hard time getting rid of anything that I own. It drives my husband crazy. There are things that are worn out and I just switch them to around the house clothes. He says one day my closet will explode and I wouldn't know what to do about it. Let's not mention the shoe closet.

i dont throw old clothes. sometimes if my clothes is not already fit for me i give to relatives or to charities, oh that is still new and not old. Sometimes if the clothes is my favorite i'll wait until its faded and its not already decent to used thats when we used it as damped clothes for the furniture or sometimes we just stock it on the stockroom.

I try to go through my closet once evry season and figure out what I want and what is too old and I need to get rid of! Keeping things that have holes or are out of style is a personal choice but, usually people on the outside usually have a better perspective of what and what does not look good! So I would listen I used to wear a pair of pants that I LOVED! everyone told me how out of date they were and that they made my butt look big! I doid not listen and so years later I saw a picture of myself in those pants WOW I should have listened!

If you still wear them, keep them. Just don't do what I tend to do and horde clothes you don't wear for years. I just did a big clean out of my wardrobe 2 days ago. It was brutal but I managed to fill a large box of discards and it was a wonderful feeling of relief. I think it's better to keep a pair of old pants you love with a small hole than to keep an item in good condition you don't wear that takes up space and could be passed onto someone less fortunate. Maybe your family thinks those pants should be throw away but you don't have to wear them to weddings and job interviews.

Have they not seen what's being sold in the stores. It's amazing. When my kids have outgrown their clothes and they look like the ones in the store I give them away to friends/ family or freecycle as play clothes. I guess I should actually be taking them to ebay someone might pay big $$ for 'naturally' damaged jeans hahahaha

I do alot of traveling and end up buying a lot of business and nice casual shirts for myself. So when I go to the laundromat I will observe people around me and there clothes. I will always have a shirt or two that I'm ready to part with. I'll look for the most needy person and ask them if they have anyone in there family could wear this. I've giving away more clothes to total strangers at the laundromats.

I keep my favorites until they can no longer be worn. I may not wear them out in public but what does it matter if there is a lil hole in my favorite jeans if I'm in the garden or sitting around the house? Let's face it, most of my day I spend cleaning, cooking and crafting so it wouldn't make much sense for me to go buy new clothes to do these things in anyway. LOL If I need something for a special occasion then I'll go out and buy something if there's nothing suitable in my closet.

I hardly ever throw any thing away, I also hardly ever buy anything new [ underwear is new] My favorite thing to sleep in is a tee shirt that has been washed so much that it is hardly there, very light, very comfortable. I am one of those people that advertizing companies must hate. I really do not care what is in fashion. I cherish thrift and practicality. I have clothes for at home, clothes for messy jobs, clothes for going out in public [grocery store, wal mart, library] and I have two dress up outfits. I can't remember when I last bought something new other than the undies.

Normally I keep favorite things until they totally fall apart. This year was different as I had lost so much weight. I gave everything to charity that drowned me

Well, just call me a packrat, lol! I hate to get rid of almost anything, whether it be clothes or something else. Even clothes from my childhood which I know I can no longer fit into, I have a hard time giving away or getting rid of, simply because looking at those articles of clothing brings back memories of my youth. That being said, I have had to of course get rid of some things from that long ago. But I don't even like throwing out old shoes that are in really torn up condition. They feel almost like friends after you've worn them day in and out for a year or so, lol! I dunno.. I just do not like throwing stuff out *laugh*

Comfy clothes I like to keep and keep and when they are too worn to wear out, I'll wear then around the house for doing cleaning or outside for dirty gardening jobs, etc.
For clothes that I rarely wear, I may keep them, and then just get sick of them when cleaning out closets and toss them or donate them if they are still in good shape.

I don't throw clothes unless it can no longer be used. And usually, I used it as a rag first before totally throwing it away. I make it sure that it is really can not be used for other purposes. But if can still be given to be used by others, then i rather give it, especially to the needy ones.

I keep them until they can longer be worn. If I've outgrown them and they are still in nice shape, I will either try to sell them at our yearly yard sales or I will drop them in the Salvation Army containers or at the thrift store.
I like to keep older shirts or pants to wear around the house when I'm doing chores. I even have a beatup, old shirt that I use for frying chicken... those splatter stains just never seem to come out all the way...LOL
