My cat's favourite toy has always been a piece of tinfoil scrunched up into a ball. She's 14 now and that's all she's ever played with ever since she was a kitten. My other cat loves to bat around a walnut in its shell, because it makes funny noise when it rolls along the floor. He also loves those plastic balls with the bell inside of them.

My cats are not crazy about store-bought toys, except for a catnip mouse that my nephew bought for them. Mostly, my cats prefer to play with things like a piece of paper crumbled into a ball. Don't give your kitten yarn to play with - many cats will chew and swallow the yarn and it can cause internal problems that can kill. My cats' favorite toy is a laser pointer. they LOVE to play with the light point on the floor.

Have any of you tried putting some cotton and catnip in an old sock and tied the top of the sock into a knot? The cats love it. If you have a pair of old socks you can ball one up inside of the other and then put the loose catnip in. The toy is large enough that they can kick it with their back legs and claws but it is also small enough that they can bat it around.

My cats play with lots of things. i have little fuzzy play mice all over the place, rubber balls, bouncy balls, stirng, yarn, i also have a laser pointer that i point on the ground and move it around and my cats go crazy for it...the youngest one likes it the most....but cats will pretty much play with anything....we have tanbark in part of our backyard that we thow when zig is out back and he will chase them everytime....for as long as you can throw them. its really funny....another fun thing for cats is catnip...depending on how young your kitten is he may or maynot like it. my youngest zig started liking it around 4 or 5 months.....i like to put all of there toys back in a little cubby hole that the cats can get the toys out of and they know right where to go when they want to play with their toys.....its a toy box for cats!!!! one last thing.....you can also get your cat a scratching post. they love to scratch on things and if you get a big one they also like to climb! hope that has helped! have fun playing with your kitten.

I was given a toy for my cats that is amazing! It is a plastic donut-shaped thing with a ball inside. There are spaces so they can reach in with a paw and make it go around the inside. It makes a whirring noise when the ball goes around! I wish I could describe it better!

I've had over 10 cats in the last 20 yrs. and none of them would play with the cat toys I bought. Instead, they prefer the milk jug lids/rings, q-tips, ball of paper or tape, ball of aluminum foil, bottle caps, anything laying on the floor really.
