Do any of you live in california? How do you feel about the new laws trying to get rid off all pitbulls? It kills me I love pits, they are so sweet. Why would anyone want to kill them?

Another example of how society labels what they fear and then do away with it. The dogs are being bred for the wrong reasons.Too many people are using pitbulls as a weapon rather than a pet.Maybe it is time that we start putting the blame at the foot of the owners.

It's the people that buy them to torture them and train them to fight in order to make illegal money instead of getting off their behinds and getting a legit job that give the poor dogs a bad name. Not only that these same people dump these dogs anywhere to die when they get too beat up from dogfights. It's so sad that people do this. Now people have developed an automatic fear of pitbulls. It's a shame because they really are sweet dogs.

I agree that a lot of the attacks that you hear performed by a pitbull can be blamed directly on the owners. Any dog can be trained to be mean, but it's only the pitbull attacks that you actually hear about because they are able to do the most damage (the way their mouth is structured). I would never agree with any law trying to get rid of pitbulls, I have a lab mix (I suspect he has some pitbull in him)and it would break my heart to hear someone say that he doesn't deserve to be around.

Like the other posters have stated. It is all a BIG misunderstanding. Just like ferrets are banned in New York, and they are trying to ban pit bulls here. People are ignorant, and do not realize that a majority of these animals are sweet, and make great pets. It's unfortunate how they are treated.

I agree with the some of the above responses. Pitt Bulls have been given a bad rap, but it is mostly due to irresponsible breeders and owners. I have known several pitt bulls, most are nice, but some have been aggressive. When dogs are bred for fighting the ones who do well (win fights) are the ones who are naturally more aggressive. These dogs are then bred more often, and therefore aggressiveness gets bred into the temperment of the dog. It is a real pity that such a nice breed is being ruined by ignorant owners. By the way, the #2 breed for bites on owners is....... Chihuahua. Why doesn't someone try to get rid of them? It makes just as much statistical sense as getting rid of pitt bulls. I worked at a small animal vet office and I was never bitten by any large dogs, (and we saw a lot of Pitts) but i was bitten many times by small dogs.

The dogs have been raised and bred to be bad animals. I dont like pits.. I've never trusted them.. However I think you should have a right to have one. The owners should just be forced to take responsibility for their actions. Banning is wrong..

Thank you everyone for your responses. I still feel it is wrong, although people should not train them to be mean. I also feel other dogs can be trained the same way. It is wrong to manipulate anyone, or thing for your own means.
