I also have a similar feeling in case I'm working on my computer for long hours a stretch- a typical burning senstion. So, I try to avoid the same as much as possible. It's surely not a positive sign, I guess... The rays from the CRT must be having an undesired effect on our eyes!

I'm an ophthalmologist and I see a lot of this in my clinic. Basically, your eyes get tired because you stare at a short distance when the relaxed state of the eye is looking at far and your corneas get dry because you tend to forget to blink.
To avoid these symptoms, do the following:
- Take some "eye breaks". When you've been using the computer for about 20 minutes, try to look at something far for a few seconds to relax your eyes.
- Consciously blink once in a while. This helps spread the tear film over your eye so that it doesn't dry up.
- Adjust the brightness of the computer monitor.
- Good posture would also help.
- And, of course, do try to do other things!
