Religion - Is it really debatable ?

There once a time we are in a discussion and we're debating about some other matters, then it went on to the topic of religion. My friend did not want to debate on such topic because according to her it is a nonstopable issue.
What could be the issue here? If all of us based our knowledge on religion to the BIBLE then we should have same beliefs. But then there are people who do not believe in the bible and have their own own books of teaching like the hindus, buddishm, muslims and etc. But I think what matters is we do what we believe and we will be okay.
Do you think the debate on Religion should stop?

Well you have those think that they are in posession of Absolute Truth and as far as they are concerned you can either agree with them or go to hell(or whatever equivalant). They are often just plain mean and hurtful. I would say that they are so hostile because their belifs are purely superficial and not a result of genuine searching and direct spiritual communion. Then you have those that are in the process of trying to figure things out. They are not under the impression that they know everything and can often be quite openminded to new ideas. You have to have an understanding of the mentality of the person that you are talking to in order to know whether or not you can have a discussion or whether it will become an argument with hurt feelings all around

I think you have a point. we can talk about religion if we are all open to ideas and we respect each others belief. We also have to be choosy of who we are talking to so as not to make it a difficult issue.

well it's really weird because religions should promote peace and prevent from living in a chaotic world. however, it could really be debatable since religions has different beliefs with each other. but in the same way, each religion should also show respect with other religions right?

Exactly we need to respect each others belief, and whatever religion we are in to, for sure we have the same creator and we will face him when we die.
