Is Kiasu-ism a Singapore-only phenom?

Is only Singaporean the kiasu one? From the long queues of people buying MacDonalds "Hello Kitty" dolls to the recent long queue of people buying Lim Chee Yuan Bak kwa, singaporeans are willing to queue one day before just to get what they want. But the questions is " does it only applies to Singaporean?". I dont really see news report of other country people lining for something as worthless as Hello kitty dolls

probably not... its just that we've put a name to a social phenomenon. :) after all when there are fans/enthusiasts for a particular product/person, they'll do anything to get what they want. Its probably universal!

I wonder who started the saying that singaporeans are kiasu.. hmmm.. Kiasu german and kaisu americans just doesn't sound right.

Oh please, kiasu-ism is everywhere. Its just an honor that Singaporean have manage to find a word to describe this unruly behaviour. Trust me, its not just in Singapore.
