Has anyone else out there lost their ability to draw something recognisable?

I used to draw a lot in school(and write)and especially liked drawing with pencil and black pen. Sometimes I would draw things that even amazed me, other times I couldn't draw the sides of a box with a ruler(LOL okay exaggeration but you get my point :)but most of the time I could draw things and you would know what they were. I did art in high school but didn't really do anything amazing or anything like that. I read art books and how to improve and got a lot better at working wit h different things and trying paint and colour instead of just black pen and pencil! But I stopped drawing since I had children and now when my children ask me to draw something I can barely manage a flower and most of the time my eldest child says "What are you drawing Mummy? What is that meant to be? LOL. Im I just rusty or was I just able to draw when I was younger ?LOL

I guess its like most skills in life - use it or lose it! I myself could never draw very well. I remember once at school one of my maths teachers had a theory that people that were good at maths were also good at art. He got us all to create a piece of art and admitted when he saw mine that his theory was a bit flawed!

hahaha thats a good one :)! Was he a bit embarrassed? Yes you are right I never thought of it that way, if I don't do drawing then I can't expect to suddenly pick up where I left off. I just sort of expected it to just "be there" when I next decided to draw something. Also according to some "how to" books I have read its a brain thing, so perhaps some days the "not so good at drawing, but great at talking" part of my brain is in control :) Im referring mainly to the book called Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain.
