Ok everyone as most of you know I have moved.
Well I was suppose to be connected to phone and Net on the Tuesday, I was looking forward to seeing all my Friends again, as I felt lost without them all over the Weekend.
Phone gets Connected, Modem arrived, so I set of to work to get connected, yeahhhhh.
Ok everything is done, but, no Internet. I try all sorts still no Internet. I phone the Server. They run me all afternoon and majority of the night through troubleshooting, then at 8.30pm they tell me the Modem has to charge. Great, I guess they couldn't tell me that at 11.30am. Next Day still no connection. I get told to wait a couple of Hours and I will be connected. Ok , I wait. 2 hours later, guess what? Still no connection. Now I am getting mad. I phone the Server again. And again I am being put through all the Troubleshooting for hours. Ok, now I am getting mad. They tell me that they will pass it on to the Fault Department and that I will hear in 48 working hours. I tell them politely, that I do not think so, as I was suppose to be connected Tuesday and now it is Thursday.
Friday. Gabs is livid, they ring up and say, we would like to try the troubleshooting again. Again for 2 hours we are going through it, I am getting very frustrated. Then they say ok we will have to send an Engineer out, but no spot available till next Thursday. Now Gabs looses it. I demand that something is done a lot sooner. I question about Dial up and they say it costs. Then I tell them in a calm Voice, if they want to keep my Custom, they will put me on Dial up without charge. I tell them that as far as I am concerned it was obvious to me on the Wednesday that an Engineer was needed and it took them till Friday evening to figure it out.
Well, they agree to the Dial up.
Now it is Thursday today and I am waiting for the Engineer and by God he better turn up.

I'm not sure about the technology over there, but if you're on broadband, such as cable-modem or DSL, it does take about a minute from when you plug in the modem itself to be completely online. Usually (from experience) the first thing they do is change the cable-modem device. If they did that, & that didn't work, then yeah, someone should hae been sent over.
Well, here in my area, there's only around 2 1/2 hours of Thursday left. I imagine that you must be 2 1/2 hours into Friday already. I guess this is another "To Be Continued..." situation.

I wonder how those people would react to a blonde batting a baseball bat ... would they get scared into shape or what? This much I know - their brains must think that they're blonder than you.

Gabs, I feel your pain. I am having internet problems also but in Nicaragua. I speak enough Spanish to get by but not Spanish computerise. My husband is fluent in Spanish but doesn't know much about computers. I have been having problems for three weeks where I have been offline more than I have been on. It is a phone hook up and the internet blames the phone company and the phone company blames the internet, although they are the same company. The left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. I would love to have a cable connection but it isn't available in my area. My problems all began when an idiot working for their phone company climbed the pole by my house trying to fix someone else's phone service and in the process disconnected mine. I finally got it connected again but it wasn't clear like before and it affects my internet connection. I totally understand your frustration. At least you have a light at the end of your tunnel and I am not at all sure there will be a light at the end of mine. I miss my friends at myLot terribly and can only get on about five minutes at a time without being disconnected. Good luck to you and your internet service. I need more than luck with mine, I think. Anyway, just know that you are not alone in your misery.

Everyone says that the old type of phone line works better with the internet than the new, so with much trepidation I have put in a request to exchange phone lines with my sister-in-law. I don't know if it will be better or worse since I really don't think anyone here really knows what they are talking about. It will be another week before they change it. Right now I am a "wait and see" mode. I hope your modem gets up and running really soon. I would love to get the satellite link but it is so expensive here that I am going to try this other thing first.

Awwww Caribe I am so sorry and I would say that your Phone Company should come out and sort it. Why doesn't your Husband speak to them and then translate to you what to do. See here I have Phone and Internet on the same Company at the moment. I really hope you get this sorted, as I know it must be awful for you. You should demand for someone to come out. Oh I am so sorry for you. Please keep me informed how things go.

Yes, it is very unfortunate that in some areas there is no competition for service so that particularly company spends a fortune trying to get new customers and convince everyone they are a good provider and then they leave the ones who have no choice without service until they can be bothered to connect them.
If you do find later on that another provider does connect up in your area you won't be able to get away from them either, we have been trying to get rid of them for two months and they keep moving the date. Currently if the most recent date they have given us is not kept to we will be commencing legal action, so you have been warned!

Ohh dear, I do feel sorry for the poor engineer who finally turns up .. please just remember it probably isn't his fault .. make him a coffee and while he's working tell the whole sorry saga .. I've often found if I do that and then follow it up with a carefully worded letter to the Chief Executive Officer (or top man whatever he's called in the US) of the company I usually get compensated for my 'distress and delay in using the service/product' :o)

I am sorry to hear of this horrible experience you are having with this company. I have gone through the same situation as you and got really upset though I did not let them know how upset I was with them and their excuses and poor service. It seems like customer service now a days is not as good as it used to be in the past. I hope this modem situation gets revolved today. Are there any other companies that you can go through for service?

ohhhhhhhhhh gabs you are having a terrible trauma with this move, are you sure it was right for you? lol i too have had to use the quiet low voice technique before now it generally works. I think last time they cut me off the internet i told them they would fix it today, that is if they wanted to go to bed the same shape they woke up in. It more than not works
blessed be

Oh I would be very lived. I've had companies do that but not usually for that long. They usually say after the first bout of troubleshooting they will send someone out. They should have as well and not put you through all that.
He better show up or I'm sure you'll give them more then a piece of your mind.
Make sure that they credit your account for the days you went without service. Many companies will still charge you unless you tell them to credit you. So make sure when you get your bill there is a credit for those days that you didn't have it. You don't want to have to pay for their problems.

You had a whole lot of patience. I don't think I would have been as patient as you. I'm glad they gave you dial-up.
