Bush! Wrong choice of words?

I have waited a couple of days since Bush gave his last Press Conference. While watching and listening to him I stopped in my tracks when I heard him say "I go out of my way and make it a point to speak to the families" he was referring to the families of our miltary personnel. I could not believe my ears, now I may be wrong and I don't have any of my family members in our military, but to me that sounded like he was making such a great sacrifice by GOING OUT OF HIS WAY. OMG what are these military personnel and their families feeling when the president uses that phrase to ackowledge them?
What is your opinion? Do you think I am being overly sensitive? Or should Bush get a new list of things he shouldn't say before he appears in public.

To me, to say I go out of my way to do something, means I make sure to do it.. and I usually give people the benefit of the doubt, even from the opposite political party than me. But of course I actually like most of the politicians from the opposite party. I think we (collectively) are getting way too critical, where, for example, to say someone is articulate (good at expressing their points) is twisted and turned into an insult. This of course is because the parties demonize each other, in order to get votes, instead of realizing they simply have differing concerns, and ways of dealing with things. Anyway this is why I think so many of us are getting the habit of being easily critical.

I agree. Going out of my way, means that I am willing to spend my time doing something. I personally would take that as a compliment, which is, I am sure, what the president meant.
People have become very critical. They expect politicians to be articulate, then criticize them for being so. Lose, Lose?

It's the sort of thing we've come to expect from this president and it's not endearing. Hopefully, our next president will be able to string a sentence together. Surely, that's not asking too much from the leader of the free world.

Bush is a joke and menace to the English language. He either needs to read what really is written or he needs to get new writers. The man does not think before he speaks and if I was in the Military today I am sure I would be AWOL by now, because our wonderful leader does not even support our troops. He just uses them like pawns on a chess board!

No I don't think you are being sensetive at all. I think Bush should just refrain altogether from even appearing in public...lol It doesn't matter what his speech is he screws it up every single time. I absolutely refuse to even watch him or listen to anything he says now. I really can't stand him and I chose to pretend there is no current president of the United States. There is however a Jackas$ pretending to be one.

Bush ought to have a very LONG list of things not to say in public. Someone ought to censor him before he says anything. *sigh*

I would find that offensive that he considers it going out of his way. With all the vacations he's had, he finds it trouble to go out and talk to the familys of the men and women that are fighting and putting their lives at risk for his war. I wonder if he considered it too much out of his way when the floods hit New Orleans?

Pres. Bush in general always manages to mangle his speeches. He either makes wrong choices with his words or he just keeps saying "ummmmmm" which is very embarassing for the world's most powerful man. I'd expect those fumbles from a grade school or even a high school student but not from a president who has advisers and speeches prepared for him and all he has to do is read it on the teleprompter.
