Do you HAVE to buy name brands??

Are you one that has to buy name brand clothes, name brand products? Does it really matter to you what brand it is? Do you buy even when you don't really have the money too? Do you even care what brand it is? I'm one who doesn't care much what brand it is when it comes to most things. I guess to me sometimes it might matter with food but I'm more of a bargain person so I will buy what's cheaper. I know some who have to buy name brand clothes especially when it comes to their kids. I don't want to teach my kids that you have to buy the best. Although I do believe it's okay if you have the money to and you want to buy something nice but it's not necessary to me. How do you shop?

That's a wonderful way to save money, that's for sure! I'm glad I'm not the only one thinking that way. I want to buy a sewing machine too to make some clothes for my kids. Just haven't got around to buying one yet. Thanks for your response.

I have never made my own clothes but I know trying would be a disaster since I took sewing in school as was horrible at it!! My mom is a seamstress and I have much respect for you cause I know how much work it is.

I've never tried making my own clothes from scratch. But I do perk up my shirts by putting some accessories like beads and crystals. Sometimes I put ribbons or pearls. I just like adding a bit of twist in my shirts.

Generics all the way for me, lol...it's the same stuff, with almost a civil conscience.

What most people don't realize is that many generics are manufactured by the name brand companies but label them differently because they are paid by the generic company.

Not me. I'm a bargain hunter. I go to different shops for my groceries...whichever is cheapest. I go into the bargain basements in the clothes shops to buy my clothes and if there is nothing suitable, it is only then that I will buy the designer brands. If I was going to a wedding or somewhere special, I would buy designer clothes, but only if I could afford them.

I used to go to different stores for groceries. I really need to start doing that again (life got too crazy at one point). Have you ever looked at the Good Will store or Salvation Army stores (or similar since I don't know what you have by you)? I bought two beautiful velvet dresses that I wore to weddings for under $20 for the two! We also got my hubby an entire suit for under $20!! Just a thought to further save money.

I buy any thing that I can only afford, especially if I knew that it's almost the same as the original ones. I never go for branded items, because I try to save some of my money for future needs. Besides, branded or not they are still clothes and the important thing is we have something to wear. And buying branded could cost us almost 3 unbranded pairs of clothing, or maybe from top to bottom clothings. Imagine the cheap cost and the convinience that it benefits for us.

I really don't care about brands when it comes to most things. Clothes especially, I only buy name brands if they are severely on sale. I know people that spend more money on their wardrobe for work than they make at the job, and then they'll complain all the time that they don't have any money. And I've found some pretty awesome looking bargains. It's pretty often these same people will see me wearing something they like and ask me where I got it, and be astounded by my response. =p The only area where I tend to splurge is bath and beauty products. I don't really wear makeup, or perfume much, but I love bubble baths, body butters, etc. In my experience I haven't found any cheap brands that smell and feel as good as the expensive ones.

That is so true, people spend so much on their wardrobe and than wonder why they're so broke. Thanks for responding.

Personally, I don't think a name brand really means anything. Most name brands these days are manufactured in similar textile mills to the cheaper brands, so you aren't necessarily always paying more for quality. Besides, who really goes around and reads the tags inside your shirts and pants? If it looks good on you, and you like the style, and the material isn't falling apart...then honestly what does the name brand really matter? If you really need that name brand, you can always shop at resale and thriftshops...you would be surprised what people give away. And if you are smart and you can find coupons or shop sales, then at least you know you aren't paying full price for that name brand item that you really wanted.

I personally have to have name brand clothes. I will settle for off brands cause I do shop at Gabriel Brother's when money is low. When it comes to food I always look for a bargain. I get my cleaning products from Dollar General.

I used to buy brand names for cereals and such but now I'll buy the store brand name to save money. And I'll show at stores like Marshalls, Overstock.com and TjMaxx to get brand name quality but not paying the full retail price.

I don't usually buy name brand things. With food I will try the generic but some of it isn't very good so I have to get the name brands. With clothes I don't care. I wear whatever is comfortable and affordable. I can't wear generic tennis shoes though, I have to get Nike's. I don't know why but I tried a pair of no-name shoes and I felt so weird walking around in them, like people know I only paid $15-$20 for them!! It made me so self-conscious!!!

I don't really care if I do or don't all that matter s to me really is if it fits well, if I feel comfortable in it, if I like the material feel of it... And of course if the price is right, I won't spend too much on clothes. So if I buy a brand or not it is really by chance. But I have nothing against people that do buy only for brands, as long as they have the money and aren't eating less just to buy that 500$ pair of shoes..... as sometimes to people it's a disease, an obsession and they'll eat less, and cut down on a lot of basic necessities just to be able to own that brand. And as long as they aren't those people that try to make others feel bad as they don't have brand clothes, I so don't like snobbish people!

Lol, I know what you mean. As long as they don't try and make others feel bad. There are alot of people like that though who will look at you differently if you're dressed in cheaper clothing. But oh well, as long as I'm happy with what I have and wearing expensive clothes doesn't have to make me happy than who cares what they think! Thanks for responding.

I don't normally buy name brands things when it comes to food/cleaning products. When it comes to diapers I buy pampers and they cost a little more than the others brands but I like them.

When I was a teenager it made a difference, but I've always been a bargain shopper. I knew how to shop I can find brand name clothes on sale and for the same price as nonbrand name clothes. Now brand name is not important to me. I just buy what I like without looking at the brand name.

hi, to be very honest yes I did for those. I buy for the brands not for the fame but i consider on the quality. since i am an athlet so i need lot of jersy, t-shirt and tracks.i am a keeper so i need a lot of movement including sliding on the hockey turf. once, i did buy a track that not came with any brand.when i went to the training session, i did those movement as required by coach and as a cute result that track been trash. i don't have enough budget for buying a cheap track for few times a month. I went to train for almost every day and if the cheap track goes trash in every 3 training session how many track that should i buy at??? the costs are more expensive than buying the branding goodies, indeed.i did buy those stuff when there's some promotions. in that time i'll shop like buying fish in the market!!!lol. so i saved a lot!

Before, I was an impulsive buyer. I bought mostly branded stuff. But luckily I was able to change my shopping habits. I now think twice before buying an item, and I try to look first for a cheaper alternative. I have realized that many cheaper products have equal or better quality than their branded counterparts. Sometimes when you buy branded stuff, what you actually buy is not the good quality, but just the brand name. You know, just the bragging rights.

when it comes to appliances i look for the branded ones who have already the credibility that it will last long but for myself like clothes, shoes, bags, nop im not really a branded conscious on that. as long as it make me comfortable and it fits on me, i'll buy it. Its depends on the thing that im ver conscious of, if its for the health i go for the branded one that has proven and tested.

Why do u want to bye these very valuable things. Do you think that it will add value to u in ur life. U can be the very rich, but that doesnt mean that u spend the money lavishly. Atleast u can use the money to help poor people right. U will get some kinda freshness in ur mind that u havent experienced before. I am doing like that only. Please dont take it as an abuse to you. I just told my comment.
