I don't believe it's a matter of a mental disorder at all, I think it's a matter of greed. Shop displays are attractive in order to attract business, not to attract shoplifters. It's too bad shoplifters couldn't realize they cost us more money every time they steal something. In order to recoup the loss, the store owners end up having to raise the prices and then we all pay for it.

i think what the poster means by a mental disorder is kleptomania. kleptomania and shoplifting are two different terms. in shoplifting, the shoplifter steal for monetary value, but a kleptomaniac doesn't think of the value of an item until she/he is compulsed. usually, an ordinary shoplifter has all the intent to steal, but that is not so the case with kleptomaniacs.

I know a girl that steals anything she can. She is espically fond of the walmarts with the self check outs. I think shes crazy and would never shop with her. I get from her that she feels like shes entitled. We all know someone like that. Don't like to work, states paying there bills etc...and apparently walmart too. Heck she STOLE her 1 yr old babys birthday cake. (remember I said I know her, shes not my "friend")

i dont know if its a matter of mental disorder or something .. .but i am sure its a matter of integrity and impulses
if you find someone else's partner attractive would you make a go for it ,,, its as simple as that
if the shops keep a worthless display how in the holy world will it attract any customers at all
i think you should reconsider your statement
thanks sid

Its not a mental disorder! People need to stop blaming everything on a mental disorder! Its a crime that people chose to commit. You also can't be "made" to steal just because the display is attractive. That is a horrible, horrible excuse for stealing.

It's a disorder when you can't fight the urge to take the item or when you're not aware that you are taking it. Others shop lift just to satisfy their needs. Me, i know i can steal the item but i don't want to. It really feels shameful that you've done a bad thing
